I'm a perfectionist. I obsess about details. If I had a pound for every night's sleep I have lost over thousandths of a millimeter, put it this way, I would have a substantial down payment on a very nice red Italian sport car. When I set out to do something, I make sure it is done as best that it can be even if it means immense personal and financial cost.

Which is why the past couple years my daily regime begins with the propping up of my eyelids with matchsticks when I could have been tooling around in a Jeremy Clarkson wet dream. (And being of the Oriental persuasion, I hasten to add that these aforementioned matchsticks were very short ones).

The underlying cause of this wretched insomnia has been my season 3-4 sonic screwdriver which I released nearly two years ago. As I have stated on record, this was derived from my Season 1-2 sonic from which I had extrapolated from. Given the rushed development schedule of this sonic, mistakes crept in that in retrospect, should have been corrected and resulted in a product that whilst great for that moment in time, could have been more accurate. I always planned to revisit this sonic and when an opportunity came to borrow the prop, I took it and used the data to create a brand new replica that would allow me to do the kind of job I knew I was capable of.

Some say I should get a life, and under ordinary circumstances I would agree wholeheartedly, but then I would probably end up playing World of Warcraft and masturbating five times a day but there is a more serious reason for this. When I started this little caper I wanted to produce, come what may, the coolest prop replicas going. They had to be accurate, functional and made with artisanal sensibilities to a ridiculously high standard. In short, I wanted to produce props I wanted to own. I know this sounds trite, but I produce props for me first, and if anyone else wants them, then that is a bonus. It is this innate selfishness that, I believe, makes replicas that change the game. With the Ultimate Edition of the 10th Doctor sonic screwdriver, I have done just that. Short of going on set and stealing the prop or having Nick Robatto make you one, this sonic is guaranteed to be as close as is humanly possible to come to owning a truly accurate replica of this iconic prop. It's a sea change on the prop buying landscape and I truly believe that this is possibly the definitive replica of this sonic screwdriver.

So without further ado, let's get down to the nitty gritty. I'm releasing two versions of the Ultimate Edition, the first is the standard off-white version as it was during the majority of its life and a smaller limited run in the light blue paint as seen during its final on-screen outing in Matt Smith's debut story 'The Eleventh Hour'. I want to mention now, in case some smart ass comments on the screw in the front, that this particular variant also features a slot head machine screw under the slider channel that was added no later than the filming of the Christmas special 'The Next Doctor'. This was put in to straighten up the slider action as the head, due to some really shitty internal tolerances, had a habit of dropping below parallel to the body thus causing the slider action to seize.

Let me talk you through the details.

Here's quick comparison pic with the MFX, my previous Season 3-4 sonic in ceramic paint and the Ultimate Edition. All very different but the Ultimate Edition is the benchmark for comparison:

As you can see, examination of the prop has unearthed some startling discoveries such as the precise profile of the ridges. Until now, everyone, myself included, thought they were symmetrical but examination under a shadow graph reveals that it is in fact an asymmetric teardrop shape and previous observation were affected by lighting and paint application. Other more subtle features have been discovered and implemented which combine to create a replica that looks, feels and is mathematically a perfect external clone of the original.

Price is £250 plus shipping and orders are open now, and delivery will be from the end of march/beginning of April.

The prototype above is not 100% ready yet as there are some small changes to be made before the final pre-production prototype is unveiled but when it is ready, you can be rest assured you will get something 100% accurate.

I can scarcely believe this but a few weeks ago I had an interesting email from one of my contacts in the UK who had managed to find the original shoemakers who made Matt Smith's Season 5 and Season 6 boots. After much to'ing and fro'ing, he managed to help me secure a sweet deal to offer you guys, for the first time, the very boots that The Doctor wears. Now, I'm going to be the first to admit, for the price these are a steal. I'm doing this not for money, (goodness knows the markup I have on these are pretty minimal - beer money at best), but I felt that it would be unfair to not make these available to a wider market. I realise that certain shysters within the cosplay community have sought to keep these a bit of a secret, unfairly so, in order rinse the huge markup they have placed on them when 'selling' this secret to their so-called friends. I have therefore decided to price these honestly and as close to cost price as I can whilst still covering my costs in order to prevent this kind of scalping.

Well, I can categorically state these are about as screen accurate as you can get without physically mugging Smith for his personal pair. They are handmade in the UK by the same guys who made the originals, using the same lasts, the same patterns, the same leathers and the exact same high levels of workmanship. This is the real deal.

Lead time is 4-6 weeks depending on the workload from their main business of being the largest manufacturer of bespoke footwear for TV, film and theatre in the UK. I'm going to start today's post with the words of The Doctor. Well, a Doctor, not The Doctor. Dr Samuel Johnson to be precise. He once wrote:

"Nothing is more unjust, however common, than to charge with hypocrisy him that expresses zeal for those virtues which he neglects to practice; since he may be sincerely convinced of the advantages of conquering his passions, without having yet obtained the victory, as a man may be confident of the advantages of a voyage, or a journey, without having courage or industry to undertake it, and may honestly recommend to others, those attempts which he neglects himself."

I am reminded of these words by a customer of mine, my mate 'Dave'. I usually quote other people in order to refute, ridicule or berate them but in this instance I felt that irrespective of who is writing them, these words need to be broadcast to a wider audience. Here's what he had to say:

"I'm neither an engineer, nor a prop maker (of any sort), but even I can see compelling evidence when presented. Now, if I were to build a replica sonic (assuming I had time, inclination, and skill) I would shamelessly rip off your design because (a) I have two, and (b) it would be far easier than doing research myself, however I would at least admit to the fact.

Given that anyone who posts on the thread negatively about Rassilon1's design has been labelled part of the "Cult of CT", which is just a label they think they can apply to someone in order to "show" that their opinions can be readily dismissed, let's now talk about the "Cult of Hypocrites" that are currently supporting Rassilon1.

Many of these "cultist's" are the same people who were actively attacking your good self back in the Heritage-Gold-Gate days, and prior to that, as an unlicensed propmaker stealing business from the legitimate licensee (at the time MFX). They are also the same "cultist's" who actively support both QMx (official licensee) and Rassilon1 (unlicensed) who intends to *sell* product, thus making him distinctly different from a hobbyist propmaker. The hypocrisy shown by these people frankly beggars belief!

Virtually everything you ever said about the MFX sonic has been conclusively proven to be true, and virtually everything you've said about Rassilon1 has been accompanied by compelling evidence, and this, along with the continual redacting/altering of the RPF thread by Rassilon1, would only serve to confirm what you are saying in this case is also true. (I work by a simple maxim - if you are actively trying to hide something, clearly you have something to hide!)

The so-called "Cult of CT" has presented evidence and asked questions or Rassilob,[sic] whereas the "Cult of Hypocrites" have done nothing but just shown blind faith in someone who has previously been known to "recast", as dismissed anyone else's opinion as being part of a coordinated attack by your good self!

So, which one is the bunch of "cultist's" here? ;)

What really irritates me now is that most of Rassilon1's "cultist's" are claiming victory because a Moderator has stepped in and essentially said "no more talk of recasting" which effectively shuts down the debate - that isn't a victory, it is censorship and censorship is never good!"

Wise words indeed.

There is a cancerous hypocrisy that underlies the intermittent conflicts that tend to flare up every time this sodding sonic screwdriver is mentioned. When I first started I never sought to become some kind of figurehead for any cause but I have found that in a world rife with lying, two faced, unprincipled and unskilled scumbags, my brand of straight talking makes many enemies but luckily, I am glad to say it has also won me many friends. I am pretty easy going but I don't like imbeciles, hypocrites and ill informed know-it-alls. I especially detest those that let sanctimonious outrage evaporate in the face of personal gain. These cunts have the brazen cheek to ignore detailed, reasoned evidence they asked for and when given it, full bore, in the face, haven't the intellectual prowess to offer a rebuttal.

This is not the first time the subject of hypocrisy has been brought up. Mooneye63 has previous raised this issue and was ignored. He subsequently raised the subject again and was ignored. Why am I not surprised? Because the answer will destroy the belief system that these deluded halfwits have built their cozy little world on.

I am a firm believer that whenever someone wants something cheap, principles will fly out of the window quicker than a greased neutrino with diarrhea. Sadly, this has been proven time and time again. One look at the retail carnage during Black Friday is enough to illustrate this point.

Let me remind those with short memories what Mooneye63 and my mate Dave are talking about: When I first came on the scene I was villified and made to feel like a pariah because I was unlicenced and was infringing on the licence given by the BBC to MFX. I was even accused of recasting the MFX but knocked that accusation out of the park. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then and I have had apologies and made some good friends but there is still a hardcore of fuckers who cannot bring themselves to admit they were wrong and will continue to take a dig at me or anyone who happens to agree with me, clumping them all into some kind of imaginary 'cult'.

The elasticity of the principles on display is astounding. On one hand they condemn and ostracise me for being unlicenced yet suck up to the licencees in a shock display of sycophantry whilst simultaneously buying and supporting unlicenced fan builds from Russ Brown or Cuntus McCollins because they happen to be cheap. The quandary that is presented is damning. Either you are against unlicenced replicas or you are not. It is not a difficult choice but somehow these fuckwits seem to live by the notion that you support licenced makers and condemn the unlicenced ones unless you can get it cheaper from the unlicenced maker in which case it is perfectly ok. If that isn't a textbook example of hypocrisy I don't know what is. I have a strong suspicion that this emnity is just a smokescreen for the jealousy and hatred they feel every time I make them look like idiots or wave something under their noses that they would give their one remaining testicle for. Need I remind you of the episode last summer when Phez poured scorn on my claim of access to the sonic props? I spectacularly bitchslapped that fucker back in his place. So the next time any of these cunts like Dan Stokes, Phez, GreatWazoo, Karsten etc, etc take a dig at me, I shall hope that everyone who agrees with my stance on this to ask these cunts to answer this question before they earn the right to take the moral high ground with me.

One last thing, these fucking hypocrites seem to fall back on the 'cult of CT' barb everytime anyone dares to question their ludicrous claims or even presents a point of view that I happen to share, they are the bullies. If you ever have a problem or issue with me, come to my yard and do it. Take it up with me. I dare you to argue your case with me. You are all a bunch of spineless chickenshits. Don't do it from behind the safety of the RPF moderators. That is the last refuge of the coward. Trust me, if I wasn't banned from that board I would give you fuckers a beasting you wouldn't forget so when anyone someone calls you out when you're being out of line, you attack them because they agree with me and they voice their opinion? Very brave and very noble. My advice is go way, wipe your mouths, shut the fuck up and you might actually learn something about decency and principles.

It appears that I have stirred up quite the hornet's nest. Maybe I operate on a higher intellectual level than some of the dunces I have the misfortune of bumping into here in cyberspace but it does appear that much of what I say goes straight though the ears of these imbeciles. Why this is I can but only speculate but I suspect that much of it is selective vision or pig head obstinacy brought about by my continued ridicule. Allow me therefore to reiterate the issue.

So what I am accusing Cuntus McCollins of?

I am accusing Collins of using my *sold out* Mark 1 Tennant sonic as the primary reference source for his sonic without attribution and for stealing the engineering ideas for the assembly and details that I discovered or devised. Maybe I was inaccurate in using the term 'recasting' but I thought I made the distinction in my original blog post calling this fucker out and termed it 'intellectual recasting', which theft of my work is. Thanks to my pre-emptive lambasting of this leech's antics it will never actually make it to actual physical recasting. This distinction is actually a double edged sword in that it allows my detractors to claim that I am wrong and no crime was actually committed but more importantly for me, it allows the integrity of my work to remain intact.

So what proof do I have to support my claims? Let me remind those with selective memories of what I am talking about: (Bear in mind this argument only concerns the original plans he posted up and a couple of the parts he has currently machined)

1) The shallow lens cap recess - The original was much deeper. I put that in as it allowed me to fix the height in which the lens cap would sit as the original prop's lens varied in the height it was installed. Allow me to illustrate this with a pic of my Mark 1 Tennant head and Collins' 3D model.

Pretty similar aren't they? Certainly there are differences but the shallow lens bore is certainly is a cause for a raised eyebrow. Collins' explanation is that he is using a found lens and the model was built to reflect that. Fair enough, that sounds perfectly reasonable and entire coincidental. I'll give you that one. 1-0 to Collins'.

2) The bisected strut - This is a feature that I pointed out, I provided proof in the form of the Aztec pictures. Until I did, the Aztec sonic was unheard of and no one even knew they made the sonic let alone knew their website. Again, this by itself does not prove anything, after all, maybe Collins noticed this himself? Doubtful, considering this was first pointed out by me on this very blog. One interpretation is that this is circumstantial evidence that he has visited my blog or website, saw it and decidedly to take it and put it on his. Since this is ambiguous, I'll mark this as a draw for now. So still 1-0 to Collins.

3) The screw in ball coupler - Again, this is not an idea I am claiming sole ownership over, moreover I am claiming ownership over how it is executed. The cylindrical nature of the coupler finishing in a circular seam on the lower inside of the emitter head recess is something I first pointed out here on this blog and backed up with photographic proof that was NOT available online. Despite such idiots such as Dan Stokes claiming to see this detail on retrospective viewing of lo-res screenshots, I can categorically state that NO ONE knew of the existence of this detail. I noticed it on the original prop and subsequently pointed it out on this blog by posting the following picture from the DK Visual Dictionary:

This seam is the result of how the ball section is coupled to the emitter head. This can be done in two ways: screw fit or push fit. Having examined the prop I suspect strongly it was push fitted and not screwed in as I didn't wish to damage the prop by disassembly. Whilst both methods are plausible, I chose to use a screwthread. Like so:

Collins decides to take this concept and incorporate it in his own build. In order to do this he needs to first be aware of it and what is the only place or only person to do this? Your's truly. It is unlikely in the extreme that this cretin could have come up with this idea himself especially if he couldn't see the original seam where the idea for this component came from. Here's his take on the same component:

Apart from minor changes, it is obviously a copy of mine. So we're all square at 1-1.

4) The cylindrical LED holder - Again this was something that is unique to my build and gained through my access to the prop. This was never seen on any publicly available photo and was argued about until I provided an enhanced pic that showed the seam in the upper part of the head recess. This pic is here:

Where was this info and the resulting part - the upper cylindrical LED holder- first posted? This was a mistake on my part and a hold over from the Eccleston extrapolation. Interesting to note that Collins' model had an aperture for this holder exactly as on mine:

It may be argued by some that just because I discovered something, it doesn't give me the sole right to reproduce it. Let me give you another point of view on this. If I had put this into my replica and not told anyone it was on the original prop, then some thieving fucker reproduced it, especially if it was on no other sonic, fanmade or commercial, it would be considered as theft/recasting because there is no reason to put it there unless you are aware of the upper circular seam. Would it not? Therefore the only distinction to it not being theft in this case is the fact it was on the original prop and therefore it is ok. Right? It isn't. It is not ok to just lift stuff like this from my blog and my replica especially without any credit given. If you didn't see it on the original prop yourself, then don't pinch it without at least a nod to who discovered it. Again, if it was only this, you could just put it down to shoddy research and lack of etiquette but it is more than that. It is symptomatic of a greater kleptomalaise. 2-1 to me then.

5) Solid Anodized black bulb and Stainless Steel head- I am the only person to have done this. It was something unique to my build and I added it for aesthetic reasons and reasons of balance. It just felt nicer to hold than the Delrin of the original prop and the stainless on the head gives it more durability. Materials choices are as unique as designs. Note that Collins originally wanted to make the heads in stainless steel which I have done with my heads. These choices are way too coincidental to be just chance or logic. Either stainless heads or an anodized aluminium bulb....maybe, but both together? Especially when I have listed these materials on my website. 3-1 to me.

6) The angle of the end tip - I deliberately altered the design of the black bulb to change it from the original prop including the dimensions of the black bulb which were a little smaller than the prop and had a distinctive tip end. This alteration is NOTICEABLY different and distinctive from the prop yet has been reproduced by Collins including the same angle of slope and exact radial curvature as mine despite Phez denying it vehemently. Phez Petter is well known for having the visual acuity of a breezeblock which probably why his sonic is so odd looking. Let me show you a few pics that will probably explode Phez's miniscule brain.

Here is a pic first posted by LeAngeSolitaire showing a comparison of The Aztec bulb, my bulb, and Collins' drawing of the bulb from his original plans:

Interesting comparison. The scale is a little off but you can see the general idea of what's going on. Ok, we're going to do some quick overlay comparisons. I must point out that Collins' drawing is a little deceptive as there are overlaid grey lines which make certain parts such as the castellated parts look longer than they are. Those are however, small details that despite what Phez claims, do not negate what I'm about to show you. Firstly, here's a quick comparison of Collins' bulb end with the Aztec. I am using a different pic of the Aztec as the above pic is slightly distorted by perspective so I am using a slightly more forgiving angle for Collins:

A few comments about this pic. Firstly, Collins' pic is the transparency on top of the Aztec pic. The scaling is about 5% off but that does not affect the point I am making: The curvature of the body of the bulb and the tip DO NOT match the Aztec. It is so obvious it is laughable.

I should mention here that the Aztec bulb and the Tennant bulbs are virtually identical. The Aztecs were dismantled and parts used for the Season 3-4 refit and the bulbs were either reused or copied. The differences are fractions of a mm. Here's an overlay comparison of the Tennant prop bulb and Collins' drawing:

As you can see from this pic, the differences in curvature are even more noticeable. The Collins' rear end is decidedly more tapered.

Let's compare Collins' drawing to my bulb:

The curvature and angle of the tip are near identical. It is an insult to the intelligence and observational ability of every interested party for Phez to suggest these are quite different. The differences are at best, negligible. Collins' bulb end is a direct copy of mine. No equivocation, no coincidentalism and certainly leaves no doubt that he is a nefarious little shite. 4-1 to me

7) The slider plate - I made mine deliberately rectangular and is noticeably so from the prop. Look, Collins' slider plate also has this rectangular flaw. Funny that. Let me show you what I mean. Here's my slider plate:

You will notice that mine and Collins' are noticeably more rectangular than the squarer prop one. I deliberately put this into my version as a 'tell' for eventualities such as this. However, this raises a quite serious question that I would love to get an answer to: if he had the observational ability to independently spot some of the tiniest details that I pointed out earlier, why could he not spot this glaring error? Makes you wonder doesn't it? 5-1 to me.

8) Overall dimensions - I know the dims of the Tennant prop because I measured it. My version is off on several of these dimensions including length and a specific lower diameter (some people will know precisely what diameter I am talking about - I held it over erroneously from my extrapolation of the Season 1-2 sonic). This mistake has been replicated in its entirety by Collins, something that should NEVER have happened if pics of the prop were used. In fact, the dimensions of Collins' build is closer to mine than to the actual prop and I have full sets of blueprints for both. Let me explain what I am talking about. When I built my Tennant sonic I did not have access to the prop so I took the liberty of extrapolating dims and details from the Season 1 prop I did have access to without realising just how different they actually were until I managed to get my hands on a Tennant prop earlier this year. One major error which I always regretted and didn't spot until the parts were made was the fact that the diameter below the ridges was actually wider on the Tennant prop than the Eccleston version. This diameter circled below:

As you can see, mine is substantially narrower and looks noticeably more tapered:

On Collins' 'final' plans his looks like this:

Even a blind fungus can see that Collins has replicated this mistake totally. Again, this begs the question, how? Since the original prop did not feature this mistake, how did it make it onto his original plans? If you were even half awake during the drafting, you would have seen it if using the original source pics. 6-1 to me methinks.

There is also a 9th that I didn't pick up on until Jedibugs pointed it out here:

9) Lower neck screw threading - If, it is claimed, Collins used original source material for his build, how the fuck did he end up with the idea of screwthreading this lower section? The prop did not feature this and had a push fitting secured by a grub screw as did the MFX version. Until I did it, this idea was not applied to the new series sonic screwdriver. Let's have a look at Collins' one:

Aside from minor differences in screw thread size and depth, the parts are pretty much the same in concept and execution. It is interesting to note that in this posting, this dickhead made a smart arse remark about the fineness of my threading. How could he know about this? The only person ever to post a pic of this part was Jedibugs in his review of my sonic on the RPF where he posted the above pic. For Collins to deny that he used my sonic as reference when he let slip that he saw this part in Jedibugs' review is disingenuous in the extreme. 7-1 to me.

So what can we conclude from all of this?

The most important and obvious point is that my sonic was the primary reference source. I sincerely hope that anyone with half a brain cell can see that my arguments are pretty compelling. Dan Stokes, Phez, Wazoo and the other cheapskates who are trying to futilely argue that Cuntus McCollins is skilled enough to have engineered all the above independently and from the prop as a reference source are deluded as all the same mistakes that are present in mine and not in the prop appear in Collins' plans. However, is it a direct copy? It certainly isn't a 1:1 ripoff of mine. What it is though is not a replica of the prop but a replica of a replica. Such that it is effectively a photocopy of a photocopy and perpetuates the mistakes present on mine and magnifies them. Collins has taken pics of my replica and scaled them, badly, to get what he needed. I have no doubt that if he had a physical replica in his hand he would have taken calipers to them and copied it to fuck.

It is easy to refute the points in isolation and I'd be the first to admit that two or three similarities can be ambiguous and are not definitive proof but when you have 7 or 8 common features that can all be found on a single reference piece, my sonic, it is obvious where they were copied from. Denials make it worse and trying to cover your tracks by actively changing the design everytime something is called out on, is as clear an admission of guilt as a smoking gun. These points need to be looked at as a whole and they paint a bigger picture of what is going on. Collins is a thief and a blatant one at that.

Collins has not answered any direct questions about the build, attacked anyone who calls him out on it, and continues to lie. Truly, is this the behaviour of someone who has acted honestly?

This however, is a moot point as he appears to be rapidly changing his plans and producing something that is pretty different from what he said he would build pre-callout. I am not happy about his ball coupler design or his screwthreaded lower collar as these are concepts he stole from my sonic.

The RPF'ers wanted to see the evidence presented to the court of public opinion. Well, you got it. The facts are indisputable and here for all to make up there own mind. I would love to see how any of these peasants can refute them. To think all this unpleasantness could have been avoided early on by Collins just admitting he used my sonic as a primary reference source, apologized, credited me and changed the things he copied. I would have had more respect for him. Right now, I have more respect for shit I scrape off my shoe.

It's just a flesh wound!

I'm not normally one to kick someone when they are down but in Keith 'Cuntus' McCollins' case I take great pleasure in making a rare exception. The reason being is that this fuckstick numbnut makes himself such an easy target my in-built urge to brutalise shits like him is too hard to resist. It wasn't until after I reflected on why this deluded soul chooses to continue on his merry way utterly oblivious to the tattered remnants of whatever credibility he still clings to that I remembered the above gem from Monty Python's Holy Grail. I sincerely hope that the symbology in the above clip is not lost with the Ned Kellyesque metal bucket helmet and the black kinght's plaintive cry of 'yellow bastards'. It seems obvious now that Collins' is a proponent of the warped notion that if one does not give up then one cannot lose. Which makes his latest salvo in his decidedly one sided conflict with me all the funnier:

You don’t use fine threads in Aluminium, as they will strip out under load and not only that they will cross thread all so easily, so you would never use such a thread on a Aluminium sonic screwdriver of any season.

In Unified threads that’s UNF that’s what is used in the aircraft industry (measured in inches), there are numbered diameters #0 through #10, with 0 the smallest and 10 the largest.

(Diameters #12 and #14 may also be found, but are usually on older equipment and needed for repairs or restorations. #14 is close to, but not exactly the same as, 1/4-inch.)

The major diameter in Unified threads = 0.060" + 0.013"*(numbered diameter). So #2 has a major diameter of 0.086". The odd numbers exist, but the even numbers are in far more common use.

For screws larger than a #10, the diameters are listed in fractional inches. For instance, a 1/4-20 screw has a 1/4-inch major diameter.

For metric threads, e.g. M3.5, the number following the M is the major diameter of the external thread in millimeters.

For Unified threads, the number given is threads per inch. For instance, a 1/4-20 screw has 20 threads per inch.
For metric threads, the thread pitch is given in millimeters per thread. Thus, an M14 x 1.5 screw has threads every 1.5mm. Although most metric fasteners have two or more standard pitches (fine & coarse threads),

There are two major metric "industrial standards": DIN Deutsches Institut für Normung (German) and the JIS Japanese Industrial Standards. Although these standards are closely related and often identical, there will be cases where say a JIS M8 bolt may not have the same pitch as a DIN M8 bolt. To drill acrylics you need to have a drill point angle of 118 Degrease, with a lathe speed of between 100 and 130 and no more, as any faster and you will prejudice to much drill tip friction heat, and it is no longer cutting at the cutting edge, but melting the acrylic. So, slow speed with the correct drill point angle.

What the fuck has prejudice got to do with drilling?!

And the second an very much 80% to getting a clean and clear drilled hole in acrylic, is the use of an oil with a viscosity of water, this must be constantly added to the drill cutting surface at the same point as you are removing the acrylic sworf from the drill flutes.

Don’t let the drill flutes fill up with acrylic sworf as this will lead to the acrylic sworf getting jammed in the flutes of the drill and will lead to heat & heat will intern melt the acrylic and you will get fine cracks on the drilled hole surface, heat is the enemy in any machining work.

After a quick wash and brush up after the hilarity of systematically dismantling Dan Stokes, we move on to Keith Collins, a man who is as hamfisted in his mangling grasp of the english language as he is with formulating any cohesive argument. Before we proceed, I'd like to warn you that Collins' english is fucking atrocious. I have had more comprehensible emails from Nigeria.

After I called him out yesterday, the man has been frantically redesigning his sonic build blueprints to remove their similarity to my version. The amazing thing is how his sonic blueprints have gone from a 'final update' to being 'designs that I posted, where just that, design concepts, however in retrospect, I should not have posted them, as they were not intended for manufacture only as a stepping stone to a finished production design.' within an hour or two of me putting him under the cosh. Despite the overwhelming evidence I have posted he still maintains he never referred to my sonic as a reference. However, actions speak louder than words. The fucker has been caught with his hands in the till and his guilt has compelled him change it. Ask yourself, if he has done nothing wrong, why did he decide to change the sonic immediately after I called him out? If you genuinely have done nothing to be ashamed of, why not just stick with your original final design? This is a question that none of these cunts have addressed. They never will because the answer is obvious.

Aside from his butchery of English and his selective retconning of the facts, one of the things that really, really fucks me off about this uneducated piece of cock fluff is his belligerence to those that happen to share my point of view. That quote from Chandler sums up how I roll. Having had our thought for the day, let's proceed with the business at hand: Cuntus McCollins and Dan Stokes.

Let's deal with that knobgobbler Stokes first since he's the most vocal of Collins' defenders.

He asked for specific points where my sonic was similar to Collins' build and in my last blog entry I gave them. I even numbered them for ease of assimilation, trying to keep it below 10 in order to avoid overloading his brain's processing power.

In response to this, he gave two half assed and quite lame reasons why the first two observations I gave did not count and incomprehensibly, threw in the towel just when things were getting interesting and posted the following:

"If the individual points on which an argument it based do not hold up, then the conclusion is invalid. You're saying that it seems clear that Rassilon re-cast CT's sonic. I'm asking you which points in CT's argument seem persuasive to you, and you're saying, look at his blog. If Rassilon is accused of re-casting, the burden of proof is on the accuser. CT has made his claims, it is up to us to evaluate those points. You are saying you are convinced. I'm asking what points convince you. If CT's claims cannot stand up to scrutiny, his argument is invalid."

So instead of doing what most normal people would do, and that is answer each point and argue them, he just makes a blanket statement that none of the points hold up without giving any reasons why they didn't hold up. Instead he asks everybody else to evaluate the points on his behalf. Incredible. Let's get this straight: The man asks for detailed points from me, reads through them. Decides to give the first two points a stab and then realising he's fucked, and he hasn't got a leg to stand on, decides to mumble something that all the points do not hold up and in panic decides to enlist the help of anyone else to help bail him out of the intellectual pit he's dug himself. You couldn't make this shit up. So Dan, instead of talking shit about how wrong I am, why don't you answer my points in the same format I provided them. And while you're at it, why don't you tell Roguescout he's also wrong?

After thinking some more (gee, it must have hurt), Stokes has go at refuting my claim that Collins' body blueprint reproduces the errors of mine. You guys have to read this, it's really, really special (my response in RED):

"The charge that Rassilon copied the innacuratcies in CT's sonic's body geometry doesn't seem to hold up to me. He says that Rassilon copied his design by replicating the flaws inherent in his season 4 Tenannt sonic. But I don't see this. Now that's a surprise. You're a cretin, of course you wouldn't see it.

CT's season 4 Tennant sonic (as he himself states) is inaccurate because he changed the main body of his season 1-2 sonic, but did not change the aluminum end piece (not the cap but the aluminum connecting piece that links the main body to the black end cap) thus making this section of the sonic too thin. Actually that is not what I said. I created my Tennant sonic by transposing the general diameters of the Season 1-2 sonic onto the new ridge shape. I also did a minor change on the lower neck but kept the diameters the same.

But, I don't see this inaccuracy on Rassilon's sonic at all. Then you are either blind or your closedmindedness has left you in denial. Any idiot can see how the lower end below the ridges starts to taper drastically on Collins' plans. Just like mine.

The reason why Rassilon's sonic appears inaccurate to any particular version of Tennant's sonic is because it uses the larger diameter aluminum end piece (that comes from the season 4 sonic) and combines it with a season 3 slider sonic body like that shown in Runaway Bride and Utopia --which has a shorter slider channel and thinner grip ridges. So, Rassilon's soinc is a custom interpretation of Tennants prop because it uses an idealized season 3 body and and idealized season 4 connector end piece. But CT's sonic uses an idealized version of the season 4 body and combines it with the connector end piece from his season 1 replica

Can you see what this idiot is doing here? He's trying to bamboozle with talk of different season sonic bodies and by doing so hoping you don't realise he's actually making it up as he's going along. Confused? I'm not. Stokes is refering to the intermediate sonic featured on Runaway Bride that featured a slider on a Season 1 body. Stokes is utterly wrong when he says that this sonic has thinner ridges. The ridges are the same width on all the sonics, just a different shape. He's only saying that to make it fit in with Collins' piss poor drawing. In effect he's saying that the Season 4 lower neck and collar are a wider diameter than the Season 1 version and the body below the ridges on the Season 4 sonic is of a wider diameter than the Season 1 body. Again, that is basically true. However he claims Collins' plans feature a larger diameter Season 4 lower neck and collar on a smaller diameter Season 1 body. Then how come the collar is actually the same if not smaller than the diameter of the lower body then? Just like mine in fact:

This single bit of artifice is enough to convince me and everyone at home that nothing this rectal wrangler is clearly full of shit and has no clue about what he is talking about."

Stokes proceeds to post the following up :

"This is not true. CT has posted lies on his blog before to discredit people he saw as his competition. He posted that I was working with Russell Brown to sell fan made Tennant sonics in an attempt to get Russ in trouble with MFX by making them think that he was selling their products through the back door to me. This was entirely untrue. There was no basis for CT to make this statement and its purpose was to discredit my sonic design, to implicate Russ in selling unlicensed Tennant sonics, and to raise my name as a point of interest for the BBC in case anyone was handing out CODs.

I actually had this info from some very reliable sources. Your denials don't make them lies. These are allegations that may or may not be true depending on proof. I believe they are. Funny how your talk of a sonic run went VERY quiet shortly after I mentioned this isn't it? I know both you and Russ are bent. I have proof Russ has been selling MFX's out of the back door for £140 a pop. I've let this lie for over a year. You want to dig it up? Really?! Do you know what kind of a bastard I am? Do not force me to do something both of you will regret. Take this one opportunity I am giving you and drop it. Now. I won't warn you again.

Now he's trying to bully Rassilon out of proceeding with his run by claiming that Rassilon is a re-caster. He has posted a list of claims that are supposed to support this assertion and it is my contention that this list be critically evaluated before Rassilon is convicted in the court of public opinion. I'm trying to critically evaluate this list to see what claims hold up in order to determine if the accusation as a whole is true. For one reason, because I know from my own experience that CT DOES post lies on his blog and two because I generally think that people are Innocent until proved guilty and any claim of re-casting on this board should be subject to such scrutiny.

Since when did I ever say I wanted Collins to stop his run? I just want him to stop using my design as reference and redesign his sonic with the stuff he's copied from mine changed. Nothing more, nothing less. I couldn't give a shit as I have a perfect replica coming out in the next few weeks. And yes, my list needs to be critically evaluated. So why don't you do it then? the list has been up for hours now, surely you might have found something to prove me wrong on. You fucking moron. Instead of relying on other people, put your money where your ego is and prove me wrong then you cunt. Enough with the talk, start scrutinising you hapless, brainless fool. So there you have it. Dan Stokes has been bitchslapped. He asked for it, I gave it, and he couldn't deal with it. Nothing he says can be trusted and nothing he says has any relevance. He's a nobody, a jumped up punk who couldn't deal with the truth.

Stoking the flames

It seems as if I've embarrassed Cuntus McCollins into a massive bout of backpedalling and furious and hasty revision of his plagiarised sonic. Result! But I'll get onto that later.

On a more disturbing note is the defence of this fetid piece of dickcheese by possibly one of the thickest, most closeminded and gullible windowlickers on the planet, our old friend Anakin Starkiller/Dan Stokes. Honestly, either this bell end is being deliberately blind to the quite overwhelming proof of Collins' recasting antics or he genuinely is just full-retard. He claims that Collins could have arrived at the same design as mine independently and by looking at the rubbish public pics of the prop. Let's have a bit of fun with Stokes shall we? Here's what he wrote and as usual, my responses in RED:

"Right, so what are the specific points then to be addressed that argue that Rasslion reverse engineered a CT sonic rather than working off of pics of the original?

Since your miniscule little legume of a brain hasn't been able to process my previous blog, I'm going to have spell it out to you:

1) The shallow lens cap recess - The original was much deeper. I put that in as it allowed me to fix the height in which the lens cap would sit as the original prop's lens varied in the height it was installed.

2) The bisected strut - This is a feature that I pointed out, I provided proof in the form of the Aztec pictures. Until I did, the Aztec sonic was unheard of and no one even knew they made the sonic let alone knew their website.

3) The screw in ball coupler - Again, this is not an idea I am claiming sole ownership over, moreover I am claiming ownership over how it is executed. The cylindrical nature of the coupler finishing in a circular seam on the lower inside of the emitter head recess is something I first pointed out here on this blog and backed up with photographic proof that was NOT available online.

5) Solid Anodized black bulb - I am the only person to have done this. It was something unique to my build and I added it for aesthetic reasons and reasons of balance. It just felt nicer to hold than the Delrin of the original prop.

6) The angle of the end tip - I deliberately altered the design of the black bulb to change it from the original prop including the dimensions of the black bulb which were a little smaller than the prop and had a distinctive tip end. This alteration is NOTICEABLY different and distinctive from the prop yet has been reproduced by Collins including the same angle of slope as mine. Stokes, I know you're a fucking deadhead but even you can see how different my black bulb is from the prop?

7) The slider plate - I made mine deliberately rectangular and is noticeably so from the prop. Look, Collins' slider plate also has this rectangular flaw. Funny that.

8) Overall dimensions - I know the dims of the Tennant prop because I measured it. My version is off on several of these dimensions including length and a specific lower diameter (some people will know precisely what diameter I am talking about - I held it over erroneously from my extrapolation of the Season 1-2 sonic). This mistake has been replicated in its entirety by Collins, something that should NEVER have happened if pics of the prop were used. In fact, the dimensions of Collins' build is closer to mine than to the actual prop and I have full sets of blueprints for both. Asp9mm will know precisely what I am talking about and i might even forward precisely what I mean to others too. You want to take me on Stokes? Really? I'd fucking mince you like I have with others who thought they could pull a fast one on me.

These are features that appear on my build, are unique to my build and were the result of research proprietory to ME. One feature appearing on someone else's build is a coincidence and can be put down to independent development but all 8?! Surely you're not that thick. Actually, don't answer that. I'm sure you're even more retarded than I give you credit for.

Is it the fact that the window in his emitter head intersects a little bit with the struts? This can be seen in the pic of the sonic posted on the Aztec website. Yes, CT is right in saying that his replica has this feature and the MFX sonic doesn't, but all that proves is that Rasslion didn't copy his replica from a MFX sonic. If the detail is on the original prop, and if that detail can be seen on publicly available pictures, then why would one think that Rassilon copied CT's work because his replica shares these details.

Before I pointed this out and before Aztec's involvement was publicly known, this picture and this feature was not noticed. Now I have pointed it out, it is difficult to 'unsee' but up until now the only place where this feature can be clearly seen is on my replica and if Collins has lifted other pieces of my design, it doesn't take Sherlock fucking Holmes to see where he got this other detail from now, does it? You fucking dunce.

Now, I don't know Rassilon at all. So, I have no reason to think one way or another that he would or would not work off of references from CT's site. But to me, having the emitter head and ball coupling screw together seems like an intuative engineering decision that two designers could have made independantly. (I mean they either screw together or they are glued together, those really are the only two options right?) And both CT and Rassilon seem like they were trying to replicate features of the orignal prop that can be seen on the original prop. Now CT may have some bragging rights for being able to have been the first person to publically call people's attention to certain details of the orignal prop. But working from details of the original prop that another member pointed out is not recasting. Directly copying another member's work is. So, for an example, I was the first person to find an original accurate Armitage Shanks handwheel and show to the board that it broke down into four pieces and that the pommel cubes could be flipped. But when board members began to replicate these characteristics of the orignal prop in their designs, that was not re-casting. I did not own those features of the orignal prop just because I noticed them first.

Collins has a track record of stealing other people's work. He's a lazy thieving little cunt and lazy thieving little cunts take the path of least resistance when it comes to hard work. In this case, why should he bother doing all the research when it has already been done for him? If is was possible to create an accurate replica from publicly available pics why hasn't someone done it sooner? I know people like yourself and Phez have taken my discoveries on the prop and used them. It's easier to use other people's discoveries than to discover for yourself but be honest about it and don't try and showboat when you are standing on the shoulders of someone else. The Armitage Shanks handwheel example is clearly irrelevant here as it is a found object. Once you manage to get to your hands on a custom built prop kept under lock and key and document it, then come back to me. Until then, shut the fuck up you're embarrassing yourself.

For Rassilon to have re-cast CT's work, he would have had to reverse engineer CT's work--ie. buy a CT sonic and copy it, or maybe get someone to measure theirs and work backwards or some other direct lineage of copying. And I haven't heard evidence being discussed here that says that this is the case. CT says that his emitter head is an identical 1:1 replica of the emitter head of the Season 1 sliding sonic. So logically, if Rasslion was working off of pics of the season 1 slider, or these season 4 prop that Nick Robbato converted the season 1 slider into (which are available on the rubbertoe webcite) Rasslion's sonic would match CT's sonic in the features mentioned right?

I've already stated that Collins used pics of my sonic, which are plentiful on the net and better quality than ones of the prop and he scaled and measured them using a ruler. The fact that he has large error margins tells me this is the case. But tell me, how is it that Collins design conveniently matches mine on the areas you CANNOT see? How come the only part he admits to not being able to figure out are the only parts I have not shown pics of? Also, in CT's blog post, he says that Rassilon copied Rouge Scout's Romana sonic, and CT portrays this as a pattern of re-casting by Rassilon. But as far as I remember, when Rassilon posted drawings of his Romana sonic, they looked quite a bit different from Rouge Scout's design.

In fact, the very fact that Rassilon went to such an effort to make a Romana sonic that is so very different from Rough Scout's would make me think that he's specifally trying hard not to copy another member's work.

But that's not what happened is it Dan? Roguescout made his last post on the 27th November forbidding his work to be used as any kind of reference for Collins' Romana build. Collins' then hurriedly changes his designs to avoid rocking the boat and posts pics of his build on the 28th November. The reason why he's specifically trying hard not to copy another's work is because his original was a direct rip off of Roguescout's, Roguescout got pissed off, pulled his work and in order not to be accused of recasting, he went out of his way to change the design. That sounds much more likely, doesn't it? Maybe you should ask Roguescout why he pulled his plans? Or do you think he's being unreasonable too?

So, I don't really see a pattern of recasting other members going on here.

Also, if Rassilon was going to copy CT's work, why is the body of his sonic so completely different from either CT's season 1 sonic or his season 4 sonic? (And for that matter the MFX prop)

My point is that if this thread is going to be the place where CT's accusations of re-casting are brought to bear on Rassilon, then board members should reference the specifics of those accusations rather than just saying "there are many features" because such an approach doesn't deal with specifics, it just casts a vague cloud of suspicion.

I'm in need of the services of a doctor. Not The Doctor, just a doctor. Preferably one with a big thick hypodermic needle filled with a gallon of industrial strength bleach to stick into an insidious, parasitic leeching piece of shit called Keith Collins, more commonly know by his online handle 'Rassilon1'.

Over the past few weeks this bumptious little turd's antics have started to irritate me. Not that he's affecting me or my business, but the way he's conducted his business has become ethically repellant and since no one has called him out on it, it looks like I'm going to have to do it myself.

This thieving little toerag has taken my work, my research and my engineering, and appropriated them for his own edification, in effect recasting my work on an intellectual level. I realise Aussies are descended from felonious stock but surely after two centuries penal servitude, you would have thought these subversive urges might have been a little bit curbed by the antipodean sun.

Let's look at what we are talking about. Here's Collins' blueprints (you will note that he has 'copyrighted' it...fuckwittery at its finest. I'm reproducing it here, sue me you prick):

You will notice that the overall dimensions (especially on the black bulb end) look suspiciously familiar. He has made a total pigs ear of some dimensions and the head is seriously flawed. I'm not going to point out which dimensions are out because why should I help this prize tool, however what pisses me off most is that he has copied the way in which the emitter head disassembles and also the fact that I used a solid aluminium anodized bulb end. When I first engineered this replica I put a lot of work into the design of the constituent components to end up with a strippable sonic that made assembly easier and the end result more sturdy. I didn't sweat and toil for some thieving cunt to come along and purloin my hard work. To that end I put in little 'tells' and idealized certain features. I also added in details such as the bisected strut, and the circular mounting cylinder and LED mounting that hitherto had not been seen before.

Let me give you another example of his blatant thievery. Here's his model of the emitter head:

As you can see, apart from a few dimensional inaccuracies, the design is virtually identical. The shallow lens cap recess, the strut bisected by the window, the radial curves on the window, the hole for the LED holder and the screw in lower section are all features that only appear on my replica, not the MFX or were pointed out by me first and documented on this blog.

Let's also look at the ball coupler design. Here's Collins':

Looks familiar doesn't it just? The evidence here is damning. My sonic is the ONLY sonic available that has these same design features. To say that you came up with these same design features independently when there is a plethora of documentation from myself during the build and in the months after in this very blog precludes it. Unless Cuntus McCollins has been living under Ayre's-fucking-rock for the past three years, there is no way he cannot have been unaware of my work. Neither the MFX or the CO sonics exhibit these features. They are unique to me because I designed and engineered my own fucking sonic.

Looking at that thieving piece of donkey scrotum's dims, it's pretty obvious that he's based the sonic on mine by doing a hamfisted job in scaling my published pics because a lot of the dims are just off. Some pretty badly (and are obviously from perspective distortion) and others not so badly. He's taken my overall engineering and created a half baked approximation of the exterior. What he hasn't been able to do is replicate the internals or the slider/switch assembly but I note he's stolen the unique dimensions of the slider plate. The only reason I can come up with is because to my knowledge I've never published any pics of my sonic disassembled and the man is a talentless fucking moron with not an original bone in his body or any aptitude for anything except mindless plagiarism.

The most damning evidence he's based his build on mine is the fucking numpty put down the angle of slope of the tip of the black bulb. That angle is unique to my build and was a deliberate tell, put in almost like a fingerprint. His angle is within fractions of a degree of mine and looks like he just put a protractor over a pic of mine.

Collins' 10th rate intellectual recasting doesn't really bother me all that much. What does bother me is that he couldn't even do a decent job of it. That say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. That is true if the person doing the copying honours you by doing a decent job. This effort is so piss-poor it is honestly an insult.

This is the work of a two faced opportunistic shyster who originally claimed he was doing a personal build but in the course of a few posts miraculously morphed into someone who is now going to offer completed and kit form sonics. And according to our friend Primrodo, it seems as if this jizzmonkey has a track record of doing similar shit on other forums too.

I've got no problem with people making sonics. It's a free market. But do your own research, make your own observations and certainly do not steal the hard work of someone like me, because you will find out the total bastard I can be and I will publicly make you an object of ridicule.

No matter, the most disturbing thing that has come to light is the fact that not a single one of you fuckers have called him out on it. In fact, some of you bastards are even encouraging him!!!! I know who you are and if you ever want another product from me again, you can honestly take a run up and go fuck yourselves. The tightwads who want a cheap sonic or have wound me up so badly in the past I refuse to sell to them will keep schtum on the recasting front because it suits their aims to get a cheap sonic. Well, newsflash dickheads, by the time Collins has finished you won't be far off the price of one of mine, completed, with sound, light and dimensions taken from the prop. It really does amaze me how these double standards work. Well, if you want to support this cunt, go ahead as that will probably be the only sonic you'll be owning as you can forget about ever ordering with me.

The Ultimate Edition 10 Sonic

When I embarked on this journey in three years ago, I never expected to really carve out this little niche for myself in the pantheon of prop replica makers. What started as a 'fuck you' to the jumped up powers-that-be has snowballed into an enjoyable little venture that has brought immense joy to a small but loyal section of the fans that want decent accurate replicas built with an artisanal sensibility to the highest levels of quality, value and service. To those that have supported me, despite my all too frequent bouts of stupidity induced psychosis, you have my gratitude and respect. To those that haven't...well, you can fuck off.

One of the things that characterises my work is that, wherever possible, I use original reference material obtained through a carefully cultivated network of trusted insiders that goes a long way to making my replicas the best they can be. Unlike some, I eschew the design-by-committee process that characterises much of the fan made prop replicas I see. Personally, I can't think of a quicker way to fucking a replica up than to submit to the often flawed observational abilities found on many online forums or to cull the temporary conclusions of endless circular online flame wars. To make a decent replica, you need a decent pair of eyes, a free thinking mind and a strong committed personality to make the big decisions.

It has been nearly two years since I first released my Tennant sonic replica and in that time much has happened, MFX has been seen off, QMx's first abortive attempt at a replica has been seen off and their second is also pretty much seen off. I've therefore decided to piss in the soup one last time and release the final word on this replica just to make sure that the market has been well and truly covered before the big tamale, my 11th Sonic, is unveiled in a couple of months from now.

My original Tennant sonic was an extrapolation of the dimensions taken from the Penny Howarth made wide-slider Season 1 Eccleston sonic. At that time, about 2007, not a huge amount was really known about these sonics and the public domain material wasn't all that great. During the development cycle many assumptions and rounding up and down of numbers were made, liberties were taken and many mistakes crept into the final product which, in retrospect, has never stopped bothering me. About 2 years ago, one of my contacts in the UK mentioned casually that she could get me access to the original Tennant prop as well as the River Song and 11th Sonics. Due to conflicting diaries and the huge amounts of subterfuge involved nothing came to fruition until early this year when I got a phone call requesting my presence on the other side of the world immediately. Like something from a Bourne movie, I got onto a plane and less than 48 hours later I was in the backend of beyond in the freezing cold to RV with my contact to finally study and measure these props in detail.

The result of this study was both a revelation and a curse. The 10th doctor prop was in a very bad state having been seen on screen for the last time in The 11th Hour: Paint was peeling badly, the tinting coat on the lens had chipped and flaked, the spacer block on the top of the slider channel was missing and the head was dented and scratched to hell. The head had also been reworked significantly and had lost a lot of sharpness to the lines since it was obvious that the struts had been machined down to remove the gouges and scratches that were on it. In order to preserve some definition and to compensate for the loss of strut height, the sides of the struts were reprofiled in order lift them from the head surface slightly. This has given them a slight 'V' profile. The front of the sonic had also gained a screw just below the slider channel, in all probability to straighten up the slide action since that was wonky and had a tendency to catch when the path of the slider deviated from straight. The biggest revelation was however, the paint. The original off-white crackle had been caked over in a grey/blue wash that had reacted badly with the original crackle and left it bubbled and pitted where the bubbles burst aerating the original finish. Having armed myself with detailed dimensions of the Tennant sonic I'm now creating an updated 'Ultimate Edition' that will feature sound, dimensions taken directly from the filming prop, microswitch activation and where possible, threaded contruction. It will be machined from aluminium and brass with an acrylic bulb and painted in the same stuff used on-screen that I've been using for some private custom repaints the last year or so. The main variant will be the Tennant off-white version without the blue wash and the front screw but I will also be making a handful of 11th Hour versions too. Look out for pre-ordering in the next couple of weeks.

Secrets of the Aztec

My word, hasn't time flown since my last entry? The summer sun has packed its bags and fucked off south for the winter and SDCC is all but a distant memory. I'm sorry I've left it so long to update this blog but to be honest, I've had so much to do what with developing new products and my day job, something had to give and blogging was one of the things that has fallen by the wayside in favour of more prosaic pursuits such as family, job and finishing some of the products I've been promising you all. Truth be known, blogging is something I thoroughly enjoy but I'll only do it if I have something worthwhile to say. And boy, do I have something to say....

Some of you will have seen the new entries I have put on my site regarding three new sonics. You will note that the Matt Smith sonic isn't on there...yet. There is a perfectly good reason for this and it is something I have alluded to for some time. The design is flawed. Seriously flawed. Fatally flawed I would go so far to say. Getting a 100% accurate replica is not a massive issue. I have pretty much got that licked. The problem is that the prop breaks too damn easily. Flicking it open a few times is enough to generate enough shearing force to snap the internal metal guide tube and fracture the acrylic. Unless I sell it with a full time prop wrangler and ample spare parts, this is not a usable replica and if it isn't, where's the fun? The other reason is it's not good PR to have 99%+ of your sales return, kaput, within a few days of delivery. No sir, I don't like it! So, I am redesigning it internally with the aim of engineering out this fatal flaw and as soon as it is done, you will get it. It will happen but just not this year. I see early next as the date when I finally get this thing out.

In the interim, we have 2 and a half new sonics to satisfy the sonic fix you may be craving. Today I'm going to talk about the first of these: The hero sonic used by Eccleston in Season 1 and on and off by Tennant until the Season 3 refit, 'The Aztec'.

Little is really known about the Aztec and there has been a lot of myth that surrounds the original Season 1 prop. I had the pleasure of measuring one of the Season 1 props: the 'wide slider' version that featured the 0.25mm step below the struts but this version, although able to extend, was not really considered a 'hero' prop as such as it was quite battered and had to be held in such a way as to hide the 8mm wide slot in the body. The honour of being main 'hero' prop fell to one of two props made by a British prop house called 'Aztec'. These are interesting props for a variety of reasons and I felt that that given the amount of screen time they had, they deserved to be considered the definitive Season 1 sonic. Some interesting facts about these sonics:

1) They were made from metal: despite popular myth perpetuating the fact they were made from resin, very few of the props with the exception of the 'burnt' sonics were. They were CNC machined out of aluminium and were built to a high standard. Such was the quality of these props that the heads were salvaged and used on subsequent refits including Tennant's sonic.

2) The paint was Plastikote Crackle Touch Colony Cream: Yes, you heard it correctly. This was something that I posted earlier this year but Plastikote Colony Cream crackle was the correct paint used on this sonic. Don't believe me? Check these pics out:

3) The prop was non-static: There is a misconception that the Aztec props were static which from the pics above, you can see is not true. The reason behind this commonly held notion is quite interesting. The Aztec sonics, whilst able to extend, did not extend in quite the same way as the other props as can be evidenced by the lack of a slider slot. You actually had to pull the head out by hand. Now here's where it get interesting. The head/battery tube assembly was never fixed inside the body and was joined to the fixed button on the side by the connecting wire and theoretically could be pulled straight out, hence the probable origin of this prop's mythical fragility. It was never designed to be a working slider prop but merely a prop that could be fixed at whatever point of extension the shot demanded at the time. This was achieved via a screw on the reverse that served to not only hold the upper collar in place, but also fixed the degree of extension that was required. In order to create a working version of this prop, I've therefore had to compromise slightly and redesigned the prop to incorporate a working slider function by way of a slider slot. In time there will be a non-slider version, but that will be for my universal remote control version.

I'm only going to be producing a few dozen of these at most so if you want one, get in quick as I won't be making any more. I'm finishing the prototyping in the next week or two so as soon as pics go up, the order book will open. It will be highly doubtful they will be ready this side of Xmas but if you order, you'll get a gift certificate or something that will guarantee your sonic (I'm still working out how to do this, but don't worry, I'll figure it out soon).

Hello my scrumptious little beauty!

After the unpleasantness of the past few days I feel that a little change of pace is called for. What better antidote for the nasty aftertaste of a licensee's bullshit than a refreshing little preview of good things to come?

Those of you that follow my tweets on Twitter will know that I happened to enjoy this season's story 'The Doctor's Wife' immensely. Written by the brilliant scribe Neil Gaiman, I even went so far as to say it was probably my favourite Nu-Who moment meshing a cracking story with new and classic elements in a respectful melange of Doctor Who deliciousness. If this story was a meal, then it was roasted hog cheeks served in a sourdough boule.

Amongst the highlights of this wonderful yarn (and there were many) was the reappearance of the Timelord Emergency Messaging Cube first seen in the 1966 Story 'The War Games'. Now reinvented for the 21st century with a flashy new updated design, this is a prop that immediately captured my imagination and set my mind buzzing with the possibilities of creating something that aped the onscreen design not just in aesthetic sensibility, but also in function.

Allow me to therefore present The Celestial Toystore's Timelord Emergency Messaging Cube:

Nice isn't it? It's made from custom milled plexiglas, glass, and white styrene with custom electronics. There is a 10 second voice record function and motion activated light and sound playback. Invert to turn off, turn it over again to turn it back on. Playback causes to the light to flicker but I want to remove that function because it does not behave like that on screen. When still, the cube gently pulsates. Power lasts for up to 1 week on one set of batteries and the unit is invisibly sealed with access to the inner cube only required to re-record the message or change batteries.

Pricing is currently still being worked out as plexiglas this thick is not cheap so much 'negotiation' with my bastard materials suppliers is currently taking place. I aim to bring this item in at a price of around £120-£130 excluding shipping with order book opening in the next month or so.

It's been an interesting few hours. I'm going to try hard not to take too much pleasure from this as I hate being subjected to grovelling from a grown man. It appears that 2000 years of Chinese military thinking has been brought down full force on the ego of a little man who decided it may be a good idea to stick his penis into the gloryhole of the RPF with little idea that a Chinaman with a George Foreman grill was waiting for him on the other side. This has obviously got to Michael Bauers since he erased the QMx sonic thread a few hours ago and has now reinstated it with Kenney's responses removed. But he persists...everyone likes a tryer, me included, but show a bit of dignity for fuck's sake. I didn't expect it to this easy. Even MFX put up more of a fight. Why do you insist that it must be you? There have been many sonics.... fan made and those made by replica prop companies. All made over the years. I was talking about all of the ones I saw. There has only ever been two high end 'replicas' of the Tennant sonic over the years: mine and the MFX. I am still in business. The others are toys and novelty pocket fillers.

I also made a general reference to props I made were people insisted they had access to when the props never left my control. So, none of this involves you. I could easily lie for you just so I could get you to remove all the posts but I won't. It wasn't about you. In the context of the thread and the immediate prior discussions, everyone knows you were talking about me.

When I got involved in any discussion, it was about a couple specific misrepresented facts which had nothing to do with you. I did even read that many posts there and had no clue who you were. I asked the everyone calm down and keep it about the QMx props. I stated that the props that I make should be compared to the originals and nit a replica against another replica. I don't think that would being fair to anyone. And why would you compare a replica to another replica for accuracy instead of against the original? Indeed, originals I have also had access to. You want to compare against originals, go ahead. I don't think you will because you replica has a 0.5-1mm error in the head. And no, it is not photographic distortion. One of my crew measured it on the sly at SDCC.

This whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. You are asking for the truth and I gave it to you. You want me to confirm details you say are on the originals to calm people down about doubting whether you had the prop. I would be willing to take your listing of details.... look over my pics of the originals and state whether indeed you had access to reference materials to the originals. I con not say publically that you had control over the at any time (i think somewhere i read you or someone else stated you had all 4 11th sonics and took all of them apart) because to be honest.... I can't see the BBC sending you all 4 heros, to China, to an non licensed individual to examine. I know that would never happen. If you had a license, you would get one sonic. But even then.... I doubt it would leave there control. I had to fly to the UK to see these. So, how can you ask me to confirm that you had all 4 11th heros to tear apart? How? I can't confirm that. I can make contact with the BBC to confirm it if that happened. You made a statement that if I added any type of medium to the props to laser scan, it would stick to all the grease packed into the 11ths. There was no grease at all in any of the 11ths or even the 10th. They were all dry. But, I did add medium to the individual parts and I dud laser scan them quite well. Keep in mind that the scans were in case I didn't gave enough time with the props. It turns out I did and I ended up with three sketch pads full of dimensions taken with micrometers and a caliper. I also had radius and chamfer gauges with me as well. So, getting back to whether you had access. I can certainly look at all your listings of details and confirm or deny your claims as to knowing about the props at a certain level of detail but I can't say you had them. If you have pics of all 4 apart and you standing there... then I could confirm such a claim if the props are the real deal. Anyone can make claims they had the props but using pics.... pics anyone could have given you while they were in the UK. I already know of at least one individual that could have sent all of his pics to you. My point is that there is no way for me to confirm you had the actual props to tear apart.... how can anyone be asked to do that. If you say you had them.... then I can't say you didn't and I don't care if you did..... it has nothing to do with me or the props I'm building.

First... It definitely was allowed and it did happen. Second, the 10th and 11th sonics had NO greese on them or packed in them what so ever. To be honest.... the knurling can out fairly well. I also took a tracing of the knurling in addition.

Now, you made mention that I'm pretty much a small person in the industry and a BSer. Well, when you make that statement.... I know you don't know me or my work. And, you are right when saying you didn't know who I was. For several years, I stayed off the grid from being hit by the fans to make them stuff. My last two projects were building Kate Beckinsale's machine pistols for the new Underworld movie and then next film I worked on comes out August 5th... Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I made lab equipment, I made all the serum canisters, and I made the special effects canisters. Now, for a high budget film.... I don't think FOX would let some small time guy build that stuff. SO lets look at some of your questions.

You ask me why I needed Nick. Well, the truth is is that I didn't. I was only going to make the 10th and the 11th... at least that's whay I was under the notion. It wasn't until after being in the UK for a few days that I was informed that they would like me to build all the ones you saw at Comic Con. I had access to the 10th that they had and all 4 11th scredrivers. I had 1 week with all of them. I never saw the other heros nor did I ever claim I did. I asked QMX if I could have Nick make me masters of the others he worked on to exact to wht he did for the show. Since Nick was finishing with Dr. Who, he could work with me on that. Since Nick didn't make the 10th, I made the complicated parts off my CAD I created of the hero from the show. I then gave him the parts to build and paint. He made one completed and one just assembled but painted. He also made the 11th. BUT, the 11th and the 10th sonics were really for me for my collection. That's why he build and or assembled those. I di not need him for those two because I had most of the data. Now, why would I say most? Becasue you are correct by saying you can't take the two screwdrivers completely apart. BUT, you can go pretty far before you hit glue. But, it doesn't take a rocket tech to see both ends of a copper tube and figure out the total length if the guy who built it says it one tube.

You made mention of the laser scanning proicess. Yes, you are correct in saying that there can be issues with reflection of the laser across shinny surfaces. I agree with that statement. You made mention that the studio would not allow me to prep the surface with any medium to min the reflection. You are wrong.... I did and was allowed to do that. So, my scan were rather nice and the parts cleaned up perfectly. Now, as you know, the scans do not give me a model. What the scanner is for is to give me reference material.... point clouds etc. I use Rapidform to reverse engineer. The scans I took were in case I didn't have enough time to get all the dimensions needed using calipers and micrometers. I could alsways fall back on the scans just in case. But, I did have enough time and I ended up with three drawing pads of sketches and dimensions. Did I use the scans? Yes I did to confirm my dimensions. When you create a model from a scan only, you need to figure out what the design intent was if you want to manually change data. Well, if I know what the dimension is and the scan is close.... well its good and no problems. This is how I did every part of the 10th and 11th. It is extremely accurate.

I haven't even finished working out numbers for the 10th or 11th because of three films I'm committed to right now. Without seeing what my final cycle time would be on every part of the 10th, I can't just give an arbitrary number to an exact... I can't. What your failed to mention is other factors I'm not included in knowing anything about. That would be packaging, licensing, utilities, workers, shipping, materials..... etc etc. So, I have no clue what the numbers would be for these guys. To be 100 percent honest.... I have no clue what my number would be. And, if I did... I probably wouldn't post it. Not becasue for fear that the members would be upset or pissed or anything..... but because its wrong and not ethical. We have two different economies between your country and mine. So, until I finish my pricing and get the cucle times down.... I just can't answer you on that question. Plus, I never know the number QMx gives. You're now asking me why I'm asking the memebers what they want. Well, to be honest.... I want to build it they way I want so the majority is answered. To be fair, there are no other makers of high end replica sonics out there. MFX bit the dust with their POS. I can't imagine you are refering to the CO toy. That only leaves me. I recently admitted that I had access to the props and there was a heated discussion just prior to you joining the thread about this. If you want to make the best sonic you can, go for it. I doubt you'll do it, but that's just me and my ability to foretell the future.

It seems that yesterday's blog entry has finally managed to touch a few raw nerves. The useless bunch of pricks that run the RPF locked down the original sonic screwdriver thread and Asp9mm started a new one specifically to discuss the QMx sonics after Kenney Palkow threatened to spit his dummy and run crying to mummy and daddy. Agreed, there should be a dedicated QMx sonic thread but to lock down the previous thread seemed totally unnecessary and is pretty much par for the course when dealing with that prize wanker Michael 'ManfromNaboo' Bauers, a man who is single handedly attempting to keep the spirit of nazism alive and well in 21st century Germany. It is probably trite to say this, but in this day and age, you cannot discuss sonic screwdrivers without discussing mine. Fact. To ban any mention of me and my products makes no sense especially if I can comment offline via this blog: a medium that long haired cunt Bauers has absolutely no control over - and I bet it annoys the fuck out of you right Fuhrer Bauers?

Having got Kenney's attention, he finally capitulated, mentioned me in his CT-Free thread and posted the following direct response to me:

I'm asking you to remove the blog info you felt you needed to post. I'm throwing in the white flag openly for everyone to see. You win. The playing field is not level and it needs to end. I'm asking you to show some honor and retract the blog postings."

Now I will respond to you Kenney, in kind. I'm going to be brutally honest and I'm going to ask some pretty direct questions, questions I and I am sure many, many fans, will want answered.

First up, let me explain why I launched into you. I have two major problems with you.

1) I don't like being insulted indirectly or being called a liar. It takes more minerals to insult a man directly than indirectly and I am big enough and ugly enough to take the crap especially if it's a fair point.

2) I don't like bullshitters. I am a very bright guy. I can smell BS in concentrations as low as 1 part per billion. I am a formidable opponent and I have no scruples when it comes to calling out BS especially when you make extravagant claims that some basic knowledge of the facts will tell you are plain impossible.

So let's deal with these issues.

First up, you started this. No arguments. YOU DID. I have shown you did. Don't try and qualify it after the event and do not insult my intelligence by telling me I got the wrong end of the stick. I didn't. The words are there for everyone to see. You insulted me, you insulted my product, you insulted my country of 1.3 billion rice powered fist throwing motherfuckers. That is a documented fact. You are also without the full facts. I already stated my Tennant sonic is not accurate. I am my own harshest critic and will be the first to acknowledge problems with my products. I never claimed it was 100% accurate since I had not measured the prop until this year. My Eccleston prop however, is, apart from certain changes made to improve the design. You and I both know that the current sonic heads are not the original Aztec heads despite what Nick tells you. Why? Because simply those heads were CNCed. The current heads are hand milled and are fractions of a mm larger and have slightly different angles. If the prop does have an Aztec head, I GUARANTEE it would look identical to my Tennant sonic head. How do I know? Put it this way, my head and the Aztec head share the same DNA. (Think about this carefully because if you call me out on this, I will embarrass not just you but more people than you would want).

You claim I am lying in order just to make sales. Anyone, even my harshest detractors know that I am straight down the line. If I say I have had access to the props, I have. I have even published cropped pics of two of the props I've examined and measured. I issued you a challenge and I described in minute detail the dents, scratches and imperfections of the props. Details that can only be gleaned from detailed hands on examination of the props. Am I right or wrong? If I'm wrong, prove me wrong and show the whole world that CT is a liar. Or just concede I have and we can move on with our lives. This is not a difficult choice becuase even if you choose to say nothing, your silence is as good as an admission and if you call me out, the fans will need proof. So what will it be?

Let me explain something to you. I have spent the best part of the past 3 years working on my sonics. I have worked myself into the ground to great personal and financial cost to make my products the best they could be. You can read about much of it here in this blog. In that time I think I have proven to the world that that my knowledge of these props is second to none. Not just because I claim that, but because I have proven it time and time again by my products and my writings here. You have no clue as to what I can lay my hands on and the knowledge and resources at my disposal. For you to come in and claim to know everything there is to know about these props....well, you'd better make sure those claims are bullet proof because it sure does not look that way from where I am standing. Every pic the production team has or has taken of the props is available through the public BBC archives. The only other pics are those taken personally. I have those too. You're not the hotshot you think you are because you underestimated me and you have underestimated how good the team that work for me actually are.

Let me ask you, no bullshit please as I will know, the following:

1) What was the real reason you had to have Nick make master reference pieces? If you know these props as well as you claim, there should be no reason to. You can build a 100% accurate replica with the data you claimed to have gathered. I know I can.

2) What was the point of telling everyone about the laser scans when you and I both know that the raw scans are practically useless. The amount of light reflection noise that would have to be cleaned up will result in a model that has less practical benefit than a decent resin casting. Why don't you post a raw pic of a scan of the 10th doctor sonic head? This should be quite interesting to see how much usable data you got. Don't worry about me, I've got all the data I need so go ahead, be my guest...

3) Why tease and lie about the paint when you and I both know exactly what this stuff is and its wide availability?

4) Why don't you be honest and give a ball park figure for the sonics you intend to produce? You should have some idea. You know how much you want to clear to make it worth your while so why don't you show a bit of honesty and put much of the market out of its misery by giving them some clue. Will it be a sub $1000 sum? Between $1000 and $2000? More? I don't think you will give an estimated price because I think you will end up driving away most of your clients. Put it this way, I am going to be releasing a final V2 version of my Tennant sonic in the fall, made to the exact same dimensions as the 11th hour prop you examined. I estimate that to be within $80 of my current sonic's price. Just to prove a point, I will even paint and distress one up to be indistinguishable from the way the prop looked when I measured it. I don't need a fucking laser scanner or Nick's guidance to do that either.

5) Why don't you clear up why you are taking suggestions from the fans as to what to make? I don't understand it. In your first posting you said you wanted to give them a bang on replica to the screen used prop. Has that changed? If not, why the design by committee? That shows a weakness in leadership. I'm hardly one to give a lecture in Management 101, but indecision is a sign of weakness and weakness engenders lack of confidence which in turn produces a shit product that tries to be all things to all men. Incidentally, it is heartening to me to see that much of the feedback points to the fact that I've been doing something right with my own products.

The reason I have attacked you is simple retaliation. Poke me, I'll poke back harder. CT's First law of motion: every action has an unequal and disproportionate reaction. It's the way I roll Kenney.

You talk about honour. This isn't about honour. This is you coming onto a board to big yourself up armed with bullshit and half truths. It's like masturbation only in this case, you want the fans to to do it for you. If you want the Phezzes, Nick Foxes, Risus and Wazoos of this world hanging on your every word, take them, because I certainly don't want them. Fleece the fuckers and make as much money as you want from them. Be my guest.

I'm a huge fan of aggression. Not just any type of aggression, mind you. The good old fashioned type of active aggression. The type where there is no ambiguity as to your intent or motives. This is the purest form of aggression bourne out of the basest of primal emotion. It's honest and it has purpose. From protecting oneself, to protecting others, this is very much a form of aggression that everyone can relate to and ultimately can forgive.

As yin must be balanced by yang and night follows day, there is another form of aggression. One that is as insidious as it is deceitful and cowardly. It is cheap, it is easy to apply and it shows a weakness of character that often belies the message that the person would like to project. To give an example: stating that you don't wish to engage in a fight or engage in conflict with another person then going out of your way to obliquely and indirectly insult another person in the same breath....that is the mark of a cunt.

Who am I talking about? Kenney Palkow of course. Maybe I am missing something, but this guy reeks of bullshit. His sole purpose in life appears to be seeking the adulation of pricks like Phez, Wazoo, Risu, etc, etc, who lap up his bullshit like manna from heaven whilst simultaneously flushing common sense down the pan along with their morning dump.

Let me give you a perfect example of this guy's bullshit, not sonic screwdriver related, but as an insight into the type of character we are dealing with, a man whose grasp of factual chronology is so warped, you wonder what other facts he's selectively misremembered or twisted to suit his own view of the world.

I have highlighted the parts that are of interest.

As you can see, Kenney Palkow denies starting this little conflict. He's adopting this 'woe is me' 'I'm a reasonable guy' routine but let's look at the facts shall we?

HOW THE FUCK COULD I HAVE STARTED THIS??????

Everything I have heard about this guy tells me he is a professional bullshit artist. A talentless hack, a two bit fabricator, a nobody who has somehow managed to bullshit his way into his uncredited jobs through sheer luck rather than talent. I bet he would even work for free just to be an 'industry guy' or an 'industry professional' as he tries to remind us at every conceiveable opportunity. (What kind of total inadequate does that?!) He tells people one thing privately, then says something else contradictory in public. I will say right now, he does not know these props half as well as he claims he does. Why else with all his claimed reference material did he need Nick Robatto's reference pieces? I'll tell you exactly why. Because he's a fucking idiot who relies too much on fancy equipment and not enough on the most important equipment of all, that decidely underpowered piece of foam that resides between his ears. Having an $80k 3D laser scanner is great but it's not perfect and for a sonic screwdriver, it's actually a fucking hindrance. Put it this way. I can produce a 100% replica using a pair of calipers, a ruler, some silicone putty and a phone camera. Let me show you all a pic. Can you guess what it is?

That, my friends, is a 3d laser scanned candlelabra. The spikes you see are areas of shine where the laser beam bounced off. I shall say no more except to say that Kenney's claims are 100% utter bullshit. If he's that incompetent, it would not surprise me if his measurements are fucked too. It's not difficult to screw up a set of measurements. Hell, I've done it myself. Measurements are only one part of the story. There are many other things needed to complete the data set for making an accurate replica including needing a healthy amount of brainpower, something that I can see Kenney Palkow obviously lacks. How the fuck did he not know about the Aztec sonics? He is clueless about the chronology of these props and Nick Robatto, bless him, is just as clueless with a knowledge that only spans from the Season 3 refit he was involved in. There were more people involved in these props than just Nick, I can assure you. Kenney claims to have scanned every component of the sonics but then claims that the sonics cannot be dismantled without destroying them (in the 11th sonic, this is true). I don't see the BBC allowing him to dump talc over their hero props or let this hamfisted neandearthal disassemble 4 hero props that Nick Robatto spent weeks hand assembling. Do you? He's talking a good fight but he's pulling a con because the props will never appear or won't appear at a price that is even remotely sane. MFX made the same claims and look what happened there.....ultimately, the fans out there who want this stuff can buy it from me at a better price, with better service, with better design and with more features without compromising on accuracy either since mine are also referenced directly from the props.

I find it ironic that Kenney is currently taking 'suggestions' for what the QMx sonics should be. Again this is just gross incompetence disguised as PR and just smells of an attention seeking little man wanting to bathe in the reflected glory of being associated with the show in however tenuous a way. "I've been allowed to measure the props....wow I am now a celebrity. I have touched the holy sonic screwdrivers, these most revered of religious artifacts!". What a fucking tool.

He's already laid his cards down and stated he wants to do a scratch for scratch replica. Why the fuck does he need to obtain any more opinions unless he's clueless about his initial intent? You already stated what you want to produce, now you are going to change the goal posts depending on what a bunch of fans want? I can tell you right now what they want: a screen accurate prop for next to nothing. That will never happen. Second choice? Screen accurate, robust design, sound, good price and a nice maglite style box with foam lining. Basically, they want one of my sonics. Now what a revelation that is.....

I've said it before, I'll say it again: the QMx sonics will never happen and they certainly will not happen if that numbskull Kenney Palkow is involved. If Robatto was making these, I'd happily pack up my stall, go home and play with my new Robatto sonic. Palkow? I'd rather hack my own testicles off with a stuffed hedgehog. The truth of the matter is, I know the guy is all talk. I know he's bullshitting because I have the info he does. And I know he knows I know.

Let me get this clear. When my Tennant sonic was release 18 months ago, (it was actually designed in 2009 with dims and specs locked down in November 2009), I had not had access to the Tennant prop. I have never claimed it was 100% perfect and never claimed anything other than it was extrapolated from my near 100% accurate Eccleston sonic. I admit, that certain inaccuracies remain and I've been honest about that but at some point in the intervening 18 months since release, I have had access to the Tennant prop that was also used in 11th Hour and taken enough measurements, castings and photographs to allow me to go back and correct my version, which I have done and which will be released shortly as my Ultimate and Final V2 edition. Btw, your information regarding the 10th sonic is inaccurate as Robatto is clearly mistaken. He never made the 10th sonic. Well, not entirely...he refitted the new body, slider and bulb end but the head was remade but someone else. Mark Cordroy, I believe. The Tennant head is NOT a refitted Aztec head. The Aztec head looks approximately the same but with certain minor differences. The Aztec head was CNCed and was symmetrical and had subtly differing planes, bevels and cuts. Funny how dimensionally, the Aztec head looks identical to mine. Almost as if they came from the same CNC file.....;-) The 0.25mm step was added from Penny Howarth's original to give a detail unique to the wide slider Eccleston prop. The rest has been idealised, cleaned up and improved internally as is well known. As you yourself stated, Robatto didn't make the hero prop entirely but I can tell you that the head on the 11th Hour prop was not a redressed Aztec head. It can't be if you are as familiar with the prop as you say you are. The head on this prop was hand milled and hand drilled, not CNC'ed. Any idiot can see that. If you can't you're a fucking moron.

So, CT... there ya have it. What you wanted to do was to spark my blood enough to get me involved. Gentleman of the RPF... it has been my pleasure participating with all of you. I enjoyed talking with you all and trying to give help where I could. Or just to let some of you know how flattered I was when you were building something I made for a show and to let you know how much I loved the work. I asked that we all get along and keep the thread "calm" and just do what this site was intended for.... to be a discussion about props. However, even though I chose to not get involved with CT, he has tried to pick a fight with an industry guy. Oh dear, I'm in trouble now...I've picked a fight with an 'industry' guy, I'm shitting bricks now. I can't involve myself with such negativity. My first respect is to the studios that hire me to build for them and the respect I have for the fans that make a show or movie what it is. So, how should I respond to CT? I really don't know how to begin this second half of my rant. All I can say is that I am mildly irritated by certain things said in some quarters that are frankly, misinformed and inaccurate. Notwithstanding the things being said, the way in which they have been said displays a weakness of character in the person saying these things that compells me to respond with the characteristic directness that I pride myself in.

So what in the Dickens am I on about? Two days ago, the man tasked with making QMx's vaporware sonics, revealed himself to the world, a move undoubtedly forced upon Andy Gore by the tidal wave of negativity that followed yet another grand unveiling at SDCC of yet more 'prototypes' and nothing else. In certain circles, it's called prickteasing, in others it's just called bullshit.

The brave soul that inherited this poisoned chalice is a man called Kenney Palkow. Instead of me introducing him, let me just cut and paste his own introduction:

"Greetings.....

OK, I think its about time to clear the air and "keep it real". For those of you that already know who I am... bear with me while I introduce myself. I am an industry special effects, weapons, and prop maker. I primarily work on hero props. Some of my recent stuff includes.... Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome, Warehouse 13, Fringe, Mission Impossible 4, The A-Team, Underworld: New Dawn, Stephen Spielberg's Locke and Key, etc. Ok... so.... that should give you an idea of who I am in the industry and hopefully earn credibility that what I'm going to say is just "keeping it real" and not embellishing or blatant BS.

There has been so much talk about the Sonics and who did this, who did that or "no"... it was done this way, or "no"... you're wrong... it was done that way. lol Everything I'm going to say about the QMx sonics is what it is... nothing more and nothing less.

1. First, I was commissioned by QMx to build the sonics for them.

2. I persuaded QMx to bring me to the Dr. Who set in the UK to examine props that they would like to release. I told them that they could not get the dimensions I needed through pictures alone. I told them I would bring my equipment with.... laser scanner, all kinds of engineering tools, etc and I could create perfect CAD models off the actual "Screen used Props". They agreed and I went with.

3. I spent countless hours reverse engineering the 10th and 11th sonics on set and in my hotel room. I never really got to see much of the UK. Instead, I was working til 3:30am or even all night long to get everything I could. I kept all details... imperfect as well... in my CAD. If I built a sonic right now.... no one would be able to tell mine apart from the original screen used props... period!

4. I know what the 10th and 11th sonics look like inside and out. I was given all 4 hero 11th sonics and the 10th to examine.

5. All 4 11th sonics had slight differences to them. One was a little longer... one part was slightly different than the next one. One had a detail different than another. If you placed all right next to each other, they look pretty identical but once in your hands... you saw the differences. I did a laser scan and CAD on EVERY SINGLE PART... inside and out of all the parts that made up all the 4 different 11th sonics. I took well over 300 photos of the hero screen used sonics alone.

6. Mission accomplished but I wasn't happy enough. I came up with the idea and asked Nick (prop maker who worked on the show for 6 years I believe... correct me if Im wrong on that Nick) if he would build clean versions of all the sonics from the show that QMx would want to release. He said yes. I then told Andy why I thought it would be a good idea. I told him that my CADs were perfect but had all different dimensions from all the differences between the 4 11th sonics etc. I told him that if Nick made the clean versions (try and make the sonics without all the "deadline rush" machining out of it, I would then be able to pic the parts in my CAD to match what Nick made and that would satisfy my OCD as to which of the parts of the 4 11th sonics I would use. Hopefully everyone is still following me and should give everyone an idea of how much "attention to detail" means to me. Andy thought that was a great idea and made it happen. Nick's sonics would also be used to promote the QMx sonics as true and accurate... basically we could show pics of Nick's sonics up against mine. When everyone sees no differences, everyone would be happy and put a lot of questions and concersn to rest.

7. Back at my studio, I went through my documention, photos, and CAD and got everything ready to start machining the prototypes for QMx.

8. I was in communication with Nick about various details as well as trying to find large material sources... like the material used for the crackle effect for the 10th sonic.

9. During my communication with Nick, he asked me to machine up the complex parts of the 10th. Yes.... some of those parts can not be machined up properly without the use of cnc. I had asked Nick if he had kept any of his drawings or dimensions on the 10th. He had said that the original screen used 10th sonic was machined up by a company called Aztec. This was the first time I ever heard this name. That's why I machined up the complex parts of the 10th sonic... my CAD was dead on to the screen used one and everone who would purchased one would be happy knowing that. So, I machined up 2 sets and shipped them off to Nick at the last minute so he could assemble and paint it for Comic Con. Sorry Nick that it was last minute.... . So, the 10th sonic, was a joint team effort between Nick and I to give you guys the best and the dead on accurate details everyone wants. You asked for it... you got it.

10. When I was on set, the studio was extremely professional and extremely protective of these sonics. Being an industry professional, I was able to gain enough trust with them to allow me to do what I needed to do to get the details off these sonics for all of you. And for that, I truly send a heart warm "thank you" to all those involved... from the prop master on up. This level of detail could not have been accomplished without your trust.

11. So, when I build these sonics for QMx... they will be made with my CAD I did of every part of the screen used 10th and 11th sonics. As for the other sonics (not the 10th and 11th), I will be reverse engineering Nick's work (Nick does not use CNC and does not have CAD models). He uses manual equipment and this would not be good when you have to machine several hundred or even thousands of parts for a run of sonics. I will be leaving all of Nick's details intact. Example: I made the Tesla guns for season 3 of Warehouse 13. The Tesla's frame needed to look as if it was hand cut with a hacksaw. Well, for the run of QMx Tesla guns, I left those hacksaw tooling marks in the parts when I programmed the laser to cut them out. That's the level of detail you'll be getting.

12. This is Important. I have seen some of the sonics out there and I have not come across one with all the details as the screen used ones I saw on set. I will not direct or point the finger at anyone specific.... I just don't want to get involved with those fights.... lol. What I want to say is that I have seen people try and replicate my work and state they had access to the prop and its 100 percent dead on. Yet, with all those incidents, none of them had access and none of them were dead on accurate. So... why would they say this? To make the sale. Plain and simple. In the end.... I ask everyone to STOP.... TAKE A DEEP BREATH.... AND RELAX. We're all brothers on this tiny ball floating around in space. lol Just know this... I took every step to give you the most accurate props. I mean.... Nick is now involved with all this. Everything else doesn't matter, everything else that anyone made up until this point has nothing to do with the QMx sonics except what's in this post and the sonics will be exact and that is something I stand behind saying.

OK then.... man I'm tired now. LOL Hopefully this answers a lot of questions for you guys and puts a lot of it to rest. For those of you who are Dr. Who fans and will be purchasing one of these sonics.... you will be getting the most accurate collectable built exactly like the heros. You can't even call them replicas.... you're getting hero made props... the same ones on screen. You won't tell the difference.

This was an introduction full of thinly disguised swagger, promising the impossible backed up with an arrogant attitude that would clearly be absent were it not for the backup of QMx. Like an obnoxious oik who will only pick a fight when he has his friends around him. Let's cherry pick some of his puffery shall we?:

Ok, so I read the rest of what he has to say, do my makes on this guy and find out he's the guy making the Tesla guns for QMx as well as other bits and pieces. This makes me raise an eyebrow. So this is the guy making a piece-of-piss static gun prop with a few vacuum tubes and brass piping, selling it for $1200 and is still barely turning a profit?! Things are looking up. I could bang those things out for less than $300 retail all day every day! The odds of QMx ever turning these things out has just lengthened considerably in my book.

However something then made my blood boil. This:

With that single paragraph this guy turns from being a mildly irritating oik to a full blown cunt. I am fully aware of every single detail on those sonics, probably more so than even you are aware of, you dumb fucking hack. Howver, I am am not going to sit down and engineer in every fucking scratch, dent, hamfisted reshape of the head, just because it exists on a rather battered prop that you measured after it has been retired. Sure, I am aware of the front v shape profile of the ridges (because they were reshaped during the season 2 refurb because the head was pretty battered with dents and scratches that needed to be polished out of it which reduced the outer circumference so the ridges needed 'lifting'), always have been. I am aware of the various screws holding each component together and the angles involved. However, conscious choices were made to keep certain things in and leave certain things out for aesthetic and common sense reasons. I examined the same props and actually got in there way before he did. For him to accuse me of lying to make the sale? What a total cunt. In part 1 of Trash Talk I laid down a challenge to him. I described in fine detail the location, size and shape of scratches, dents and other features that I could not possibly know unless I have examined and photographed the props. If I am talking shit, call me out on it, I dare you, muthafucker. His is adopting this pathetic passive aggressive 'I don't want to pick a fight' stance but by insulting my integrity he already has and in that regard I will remember this and when he fucks up, which he already has, I shall be waiting to publically rub his face in it.

But it gets worse.....in another post he goes on to state:

That is the biggest pile of crock I have every heard. HOW FUCKING DARE YOU? You don't want to pick a fight?! Great job, you cocksucking little faggot. I have you know I put blood, sweat and guts into all my replica. Over the past three years I have bent over backwards to bring the finest sonics to market. They are handbuilt with an attention to detail that will make a talentless fuck like you, wince. My mark 2 Tennant sonic is already being readied for the next run, and it has dimensions taken for the same prop you examined so it will be as perfect as I can make it. However, if by some miracle, QMx does get their's out, I have a good mind to saturate the entire market with $150 cnc'ed, with sound, versions of yours just to fuck you up and I will feel great doing it and I won't even care that I will not be making any money as the satisfaction of seeing your fat faces when you shit yourself when you realise you will be sitting on several hundred $2000 sonics that you can't shift is more than payment enough. QMx could well follow MFX into oblivion.

So Kenney's made some bold claims. He's given it the double XXL. But one thing nags at me that betrays the fact that he's nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.

If he has taken laser scans of the sonics (I find this weird as you cannot really cannot take laser scans of reflective metal surfaces without coating them in talc first, and I don't see the Beeb allowing that, do you?), detailed measurements and photos....

WHY THE FUCK DOES HE NEED ROBATTO'S REFERENCE PIECES??????

His reasoning does not gel. Each one of the 11th sonics is unique and the most unique parts are the copper and aluminium strips that make up the upper and lower cage sections. Each one is hand fitted and trimmed, taped and then riveted. They then need to be adjusted. None of them are 1:1 interchangeable with another. It would be a simple case of averaging all the necessary dims to give a tidy prop with interchangeable parts. Even simpler, choose the best looking prop and copy that! What a fucking numbnut....

I never took laser scans, but I have enough data here to produce a perfectly tidy, symmetrical 1:1 replica which is what I am working on right now.

I suspect Kenney fucked up. I don't think he took scans or his scans ended up inaccurate for various reasons and he is having trouble getting the cages to fit. Am I right? I know I am. The way the prop is, you cannot just straightforward copy it. The hand coaxing and trimming and notching means that what is measured is not what came fresh off Robatto's mill.

So what about the 10th? He claims he wants to make a perfect 1:1 replica indistiguishable from the prop. I don't think he quite succeeded with this:

It's a lovely prop and is actually a lot better and more accurate than my current version. There are many things perfect with it including the black bulb shape and the body, However there are also several things seriously flawed with it. I am not going to point out what these are as quite honestly, why should I do their job for them, but there are two major issues with the head and Robatto fucked up with the paint (he did tweet about it about 10 days ago) which meant the crackle was too small. Fine for the Eccleston Aztec sonic, not so fine for the Tennant sonic. I know precisely what he did, and that was he laid on too thick an undercoat and too thin a top coat. Nice to see the flush, filled in activation strip but technically that was never on this sonic and was only ever on the Eccleston ones.

So much for the boasts then....it is what it is: a nice, tidied hybrid sonic but hardly one that you cannot tell apart from the prop and certainly not the perfection he promised. Some of this has already been pointed out to Kenney who swears blind that it is identical when compared to his reference pics. Sorry, but I've already done comparisions using my own pics and there are issues. Feel free to post them though, should be interesting to see. I notice that Kenney hasn't machined in the wonky bevels and the assymmetry. I really does hope he posts these pics as then my proof can be checked against the scratches and dents in the prop. You will also all see how shit the prop actually is and that a perfect recreation would be madness.

So what do I think will happen with these sonics? I maintain that they will never see the light of day.

The R&D can take up to a year per sonic, especially if you have a busy schedule like I have and by the sounds of it, Kenney Palkow has too. He only makes for QMx in his spare time between movies. He's also working on QMx's other stuff.

The Matt Smith sonic is completely at odds with mass manufacture, even CNC, as each one needs hand assembly, fitting and substantial internal redesign. I already have that sussed. It contain nearly 50 parts, all scratch made. Using the infinitely simpler Tesla gun they charged $1200 which was cheaper than the final costings dictated. If this thing ever does come to market, which I doubt, you are looking at nearly $2000.

The 10th sonic, which according to Kenney is harder to machine (trust me, it isn't), needs to be hand painted which takes a lot of man hours (trust me, I have dicked around with this stuff probably more than any man on earth. What I do not know about crackle paint can be written on the back of a hobbit's posing pouch)

The message they give is utterly contradictory. On one hand they say they want to produce replicas indistinguishable from the props. Yet they show sanitised and idealised prototypes which are totally different from the props they are supposed to ape. You can't have it both ways. Pick one route and stick to it with conviction. if you want to produce screen accurate replicas, you must do it, warts too.

In any sensible person's view, QMx have a flawed business model that relies too much on cheap shite or very expensive stuff they farm out to people who end up stiffing them on price because they can. How about producing good stuff at a fair price? If you can't then I will and I'll still be standing at the end of days becuase I'm a tough passionate bastard and tough passionate bastards survive. Believe it.

So....this their best effort is it?

It's been an exciting few days hasn't it? To be fair, if you are a QMx fan your hard on should be subsiding, your eyesight should be really suffering and your stash of Astroglide personal lube should be pretty low around about now. So....epilate those palms, buckle down and enjoy the rather foamy ride....

Two major points I'm going to cover here, firstly I want to address my access to screen used props which phuckers such as Phez have poured scorn over, and also the hiring of Kenney Palkow by QMx to attempt to make their sonic replicas.

Ok, first up...prop access. Have I or haven't I? Well, I haven't BSed anyone so far and I am not about to start now. I will make no bones about this, I am a well connected guy. I have done a lot for my friends and I will continue to do a lot for my friends and my friends reciprocate my friendship in kind. Life is nicer that way. One thing I will never do is sell anyone out no matter what the provocation. If I have had access to props, I will say so. If I haven't I will also say so. But one thing I will never do is make a claim I cannot back up.

There is a certain dickhead minority within fandom who cannot see further than the ends of their noses. They are blinded by their own prejudices and will continue to stumble down that dark alleyway called ignorance lead by their own narrowmindedness eventually to be butt fucked and mugged by that knife wielding hooligan called truth. These cunts, lead by Phez, think they know it all, they seem to think that the world is a nice and logical place that conveniently adheres to their misguided notions of cause and effect.

It doesn't.

What they have become is a victim of dogma, a sanitized truth imposed by authority to limit the world view of those too dumb to realise they are being manipulated for other ends. When someone comes along that challenges this view, they go through various stages of denial, anger and fear. I have stated several times I have had access to all the screen used 11th doctor sonics. I have measured them, stripped them down, photographed them and documented every part of them. Enough info to realise that the props are a) crude pieces of shit b) that they can never be released as a straightforward machine mark for machine mark replica (remember this point as it is VERY important later).

Despite my rather brash and bombastic exterior, as several hundred customers will attest, I am in fact, quite a nice fellow. I have shared certain things with a close circle of customers I also consider friends. I haven't shared these things with everyone because, quite frankly, I don't want to and because certain people will hardly thank me for it. A case in point is my sharing of the screen accurate Perfetto technique last year which many cunts that don't like me (and the feeling is entirely mutual) have gladly taken the knowledge I have handed out and use it for their own ends without a credit or a thank you. But I don't really care about stuff like that. What does bother me though, is the damned cheeky sense of entitlement that these fuckers have.

Phez has the brass balls to call me a liar even though several veteran members of the RPF with no hidden agenda, established reputations and verifiable identities will vouch that they have seen proof that I have had access to these props. I have shared these with certain trusted people and they have verified these are the real deal yet for their trouble they get called liars too. I AM NOT HAVING THIS.

Phez, if you're reading this, you're a twat. A dickhead of highest order. A cunt of the Nth magnitude. You're a talentless, no hope fucking loser with a microscopic penis.

This guy is a prime example of what happens when jealousy and ignorance combine to form a nasty, small minded petty little cocksucker with nothing better to do than to impugn the integrity of those that are merely stating the truth. The problem with pricks like Phez is that they haven't got the cojones to engage with me directly so he takes his frustrations out on my friends (and probably his weeny too).

So, against my better judgement, I'm going to post a pic that shall hopefully put this little matter to bed.

What you have have here are two high res pictures of the River Song sonic and one of the 4 11th Doctor sonic props cropped from much larger reference pics I took whilst the screen used props were in my possession. The sensible amongst you will let this rest but I predict that Phez will probably dismiss these as a) being fakes (in which case I suggest publically asking Robatto if these are his work) or b) being publically available pics, in which case I challenge anyone to find them. You won't be able to, because I took them and the originals are on an SD card here on my desk.

After that little rant, I think I'm well within my rights for this:

I have also had the 10th Doctor prop in my possession also. If anyone has any further challenges, here's what I suggest: since Kenney Palkow has also photographed and laser scanned the same props, why don't I describe the size and location of every single dent, scratch, machine mark and blemish on any of the props?

Let me give you an example: on all of the 11th sonics, none of the notches on the upper bevelled surface of the silver cage arm strips are symmetrical. These notches have been cut out to allow the nut-like pivot brackets connecting the claw arms enough clearance to close properly and to actually install them in the first place. On one sonic, the one with the with very fine knurling and the fatter, straighter conical corian handle, these notches are actually very shallow and on two struts there is virtually no notch on the right hand edge. I also seem to recall that this one was slightly longer than the rest in the open position.

On the other sonic with fine knurling (there were 2 with this distinctive finer knurling), there was a rivet on one of the silver arms, just under a quarter of the way from the top on the smooth section above the knurling. On yet another sonic, this one with the the rougher diamond knurling, there was a single crosshead machine screw at the bottom of one of the silver arms that prevents it from opening.

All sonics have at least one serious scratch on the copper collar that sits above the leather handle. Two have 1.5-2.5mm gouges and the other two have a 6mm horizontal scratch and 4.5mm scratch respectively.

The 10th doctor sonic has a tiny nick in the right hand edge of one of the struts 4.2mm from the upper bevel. The strut on the opposite side has a 4mm long piece of pitting/chipping on the right hand edge of the strut face. The strut to the right of that has a dent on the top left corner where it looks like the corner has been flattened after being dropped. The paint is a thick blue grey bubbly wash over the original crackle finish and looks, frankly, shit and has chipped off in most places exposing bare metal, especially directly right of the slider channel. The slider plate is not well finished and has a slight beveling on the lower edge.

Enough detail? I hope this shuts a few of these cunts up. And if Kenney Palkow knows his stuff, he will know that everything I have described is bang on the money.You wanted answers? I'll leave you with this:

It's that time of year again. Silly season has begun in earnest, business has slumped, anyone who is anyone has fucked off to the nearest beach to get blind drunk on drinks with paper umbrellas in them, QMx dusts off the bullshit maker for ComicCon and the feeling of deja vu is so pervasive, I might choose last week's lottery numbers in the hope they come up again this week.

I may jest, but I swear that QMx actually does have a massive bullshit machine in their office, like a grotesque ice cream maker that churns out whipped cones of steaming cow turds for the gullible retards that actually believe what they are being fed is chocolate flavoured dairy dessert when in actual fact it's another type of bovine derived product entirely.

Let's remind ourselves of what was announced last year, shall we?:

'Their' Tennant sonic never made it to market and has been quietly swept under the carpet. Instead, what we get this year is something even more interesting:

They look good don't they? But then again, they should. They are perfect for a very good reason. What we apparently have here are claimed 'prototypes' of QMx's sonic replicas, made by the production propmaker Nick Robatto. That's all well and good. But reading between the lines, what is omitted is often more telling than what is actually said (which in this instance is, to be honest, "not a lot"). The weakminded sycophantic portion of fans will jump all over this, panhandled like a pubescent virgin doped up to the gills on Viagra, and think "Yay!, we're going to be getting replicas made by the actual propmaker himself".

Bullshit!

That's the fantasy, here's the reality:

What you are seeing are not QMx's prototypes of these sonics, but QMx's reference material that they intend to use to make their replicas.

Yes, QMx have neither designed or blueprinted for these pieces. They don't even have anyone lined up to make them. These are in no way representative of the final product. In order to stall and keep the licence for another year, QMx commissioned Robatto to make exact replicas of the props since they couldn't get hold of the actual filming props, this is a solution that allowed them to obtain, measure and keep master reference pieces. By doing this, they show the BBC that they are actually doing something with the licence instead of sitting around with their dicks in their hands and it allows them to keep a certain sizeable chunk of the fanbase fluffed for a while longer.

But, you know what? They have the same reference material that I've got. The only difference (and it's not much of a difference) is that my reference is from screen used pieces but nonetheless, they are also Robatto made. I'm not going to go into the details of this but some of my readers already know I'm not bullshitting.

Put into context, what does this QMx 'announcment' actually mean? Very little. It just means they have bought screen accurate reference pieces. I could release pics of the screen used pieces I referenced and said "hey guys, look at my prototypes!" but that would be misleading, unethical and patently untrue. When I release pics of my prototypes, they will be designed and made by me. Unless every single one of QMx's replicas are made by Nick Robatto, they really should shut the fuck up, be honest and let their product do the talking. Underpromise and over deliver is a mantra I live by and if the fatties that run QMx would get their maws out of their cheeseburgers long enough to listen, they would also heed this mantra too.

Personally, I guarantee that the QMx replicas will never happen. I know the 11th doctor sonic back to front now, every nuance, quirk and idiosyncrasy. It is a massively difficult piece to engineer and build and I've been working on it for nearly a year. QMx cannot do this and the other pieces anytime soon especially if they are starting from effectively now. With the prices in China and around the world shooting skyhigh, the chances of this being made affordably by QMx is virtually zilch. You'd getter better odds on finding Dee Dee Ramone alive and well on the moon blowing Michael Jackson.

The way they have just wheeled these out, claiming between the lines, that these are what will be made is irresponsible and dare I say it, fraudulent in the extreme. At least MFX had the balls to show a prototype that they engineered themselves. It's not a complete disaster though. If the replicas don't happen, they could always release nice posters of the 'prototypes', right?

I'm not saying they'll be made next month, but the QMx "vaporware" concern is part of a past that doesn't really include any of the current folks at QMx. The Farnsworths and Tesla's are both here and on sale. As are a number of newly designed statues and maquettes. The Enterprise Refit and the 2009 Enterprise are both here as well. And we'll have ordering details for those very soon.

How about being honest and saying that you have no clue if and when they will ever be done? Farnsworths and Tesla's are great albeit much much simpler that a sonic. Even the more complex piece, the Tesla gun is no where near as complex as a hand made 11th sonic with nearly 50 components and look at the price of that. You have no machinists, production facilities or design capability: just a bunch of people you hire on a per job basis to be paid peanuts. I guarantee that no one will go near the sonics for less than £1000 per unit, COST. Trust me, I already did my research

So, I know the past hasn't boded well. But we're definitely looking forward and the sonics are further along than they've ever been ;-)

It's official. As of 9.00am yesterday morning I have become a fully paid up purveyor of crack. Before the more delicate of sensibility amongst you start tut-tutting away at CT's apparent deviant diversification into the world of illegal recreational stimulants, I should quickly stress that the crack I am refering to is totally legal but like its illicit namesake, it is no less debilitating on body and soul.

As regular followers of my rather rambling and often disjointed belles-lettres here in cyberspace will know, I have had a bit of a Elmer Fudd/Bugs Bunny saga the past 6 months. The object of my pursuits has been the industrial crackle that I announced last October. Since that moment it has been, to be frank, a fucking millstone around my neck. The sheer number of occasions I have regretted this utterly moronic decision on my part in the past six months has swelled the family swear box and spurred in me a renewed resolve for keeping my big mouth shut in future. The reason for this new found emnity towards a paint coating is that this has not been the simplest of things to development and even less simple to apply. If you've followed my updates, you will have seen the buckets of failures, the pics of me at stupid-o'-clock in a freezing paint shop in the depths of winter spraying these fucking things, continually cursing-to-damnation the sheer futility of trying to standardise a bastard 10 layer/20 process paint coating all in the name of bloody-minded oneupsmanship. However, like with all endeavours where impossibility sneers at you from the other side of the abyss, sheer stubborness, luck and a bit of lateral thinking eventually paid dividends and the result is this....

Pretty lovely looking aren't they? These are pretty much as good as they will get. The paint coating is as hard as nails. It's a totally custom paint, developed by me and a coatings chemist which replicates the hardness and durability of real ceramic. It is also the true colour of the prop for most of its life. Forget the whole 'Heritage Gold'/'Colony Cream' debate from last year when I spanked Neill Gorton's botty and sent him running back to Auntie (who promptly took away his licence), the props were (with the exception of the Aztec which really, genuinely and unequivocably was 'Colony Cream') this shade of 'just off' white with any change in colour caused by a mixture of dirt and yellowing of the clearcoat.

Just how tough is this bastard? Here's what I had to do to even chip it:

That small amount of damage was made using a chisel. That's how tough this stuff is. Now I do not advise you to go around smacking your spanking new limited edition sonics with a chisel. Well, you can as it's your's, but don't come bawling to me as I will laugh at you. You'll just have to take my word for it.

So, how do you get your mitts on one of these beauties? Go to my webstore and fill your boots. But get a shift on. I am only making 20 of each model and most have been pre-sold last year. As of the time of writing, the Tennant ones are practically gone with only a handful left but a larger number of Eccleston versions are still kicking around (where's the love for Eccles????).

Think about the future

Remember in Batman when The Joker tells Eckhart "Think about the future". Lately I've had quite a few people asking me about this very same thing. In a manner of speaking.

I've been obliquely evasive in my replies and there has been a perfectly good reason for that. You see, the future [sonic] figures quite prominently in the future of The Celestial Toystore. For the past year or so, I've been gathering data and reference material about this sonic and I've been secretly working on it as it's not an easy one to tackle. Before I commit to a project I want to make pretty damned sure I can replicate the original faithfully and without compromise. Lately the final pieces of the jigsaw have fallen into place and I've sourced the last few missing components, some of which I've been teasing you with on Twitter. Now, I'm ready to reveal the mother of all teasers: the picture above, which is a resin version of my prototype. I'm not ready to reveal that just yet, but suffice to say, I think I've done a fairly good job in replicating the original prop. It's accurate to a certain point and I've still got some alterations to make to the prototype but so far I'm happy with it. If there is anything glaringly wrong, I'd love to hear about it.

Plastikote Revisited

This evening I was going through my backups and found a cache of images that one of my customers, AJ, sent me a while ago. Amongst them was this image:

This is an image that some of you will know quite well as it's the concept art for the burnt sonic from back in 2006 and was posted on the BBC site.

So what? I hear you all ask. Usually concept art holds no real interest for me except as a passing curiosity that shows what a prop was originally envisioned to look like.

However, closer inspection reveals something quite extraordinary. Far from being a Photoshop generated piece, this is actual fact a photograph of the Aztec sonic that McKinstry has painted over. In particular, the body has been altered very minimally and shows the precise paint finish of the Aztec sonic and the fact that far from being a resin construct as previously thought, it was tooled from metal.

Epic Fail

Last year I had dinner in a lovely little Greek restaurant called Elia not far from here in Shanghai. It was a memorable repast, resplendent in the authentic flavours of the mediterranean, a little slice of Greece slap bang in the middle of the Orient. Having gorged on dolmades, marinated lamb chargrilled to perfection, kofte and the best moussaka this side of Athens, my companions and I were presented with a complimentary selection of sweetmeats to round off our meal. Amongst them was some rather delightful chunks of Turkish delight, that reknowned and rather delicious gelatinous confection flavoured with rosewater. I voiced my appreciation of this: "Ahhhhh.....Turkish delight, wonderful!" Popping a sweet, lightly dusted cube into my mouth and allowing the wonderful aromas of rose and spice infuse my senses foxtrotting with the texture of the pistachio nut liberally sprinkled throughout. No sooner than the first morsel been savoured than my Bacchanalian reverie was interrupted by a sharp cuff across the back of my head from Christos, the owner of the establishment, who rather pointedly corrected me on my terminology. "It's not Turkish delight, it's a Greek delight!" he proudly proclaimed, looking at me with a mixture of disgust and astonishment that I could get something so elementary, so very, very wrong.

Which brings me onto the current subject of this blog. You see, just like Christos gave me a smack, I would rather like to do the same to Daniel 'Risu' Pawlik. The reason for this will be apparent.

Ever since David Tennant was unveiled to the world as our favourite Timelord, the cosplay brigade have been searching for their holy Grail: a screen accurate version of Tennant's costume. The search for this has been of varying levels of success none more so than in trying to track down the fabrics used for Tennant's suits. It was thought that the professional wanker Steven 'Pumpkiny' Ricks, has come closest and even managed to track down a pair of the near mythical Gap trouser from whence the brown Tennant suit was fabricated. He even managed to find the undyed fabric used for the blue suit. From these, Daniel 'Risu' Pawlik and that hack Tony 'Indy' Magnoli have rewoven the fabrics to feed the insatiable appetites of the cosplay crowd.

So what's the problem? Well, for a long time I've questioned Risu's ability to use his eyes and I still maintain that I think he's secretly blind, rather like Richard Pryor's character in Hear no Evil, See No Evil, who is in constant denial and likes to give the impression that his eyeballs are fully functional when in reality he's got all the visual acuity of a FIFA referee. From having a suspicion, I have recently come to the conclusion that his optic nerves really are as useful as Gary Moore's guitar.

The reason I say this is that even with all the reference material in the world, samples of the fabric and the guidance of legions of cosplayers, he has still managed to totally fuck it up. A while ago, I gave the analogy of missing an elephant at point blank with a cannon. This is what is like. Have a look at what I mean:

Here's the blue fabric:

Ok, weight is correct, weave is correct. But the finish, the stripe spacing and most importantly, the colour is totally off. The stripe spacing matches the original undyed fabric but when dyeing, the fabric shrinks, giving a narrower stripe spacing. This can be seen on the original fabric below, which incidentally, is substantially darker than Risu's recreation.

Which brings me onto the brown Gap fabric:

Again, weave and weight are correct. Colour is slightly off, but the difference is minimal. However, look at the stripes. Know what I mean?

It really irks me when twats like Risu continually make statements like 'this is 100% screen accurate' when it patently isn't. What is worse is when they have every opportunity to make it screen accurate yet through incompetence or just sheer laziness, they fuck it up royally as in this situation.

I swore I would never use this phrase but more than anything it sums up the sheer magnitude of this cock-up better than any colourful idiom I can come up with, and that's:

EPIC FAIL

As an addendum, I have been asked why the original fabric has a sheen on it that the reweave doesn't. The answer is NOT, as that talentless tool Steven Ricks thinks, down to the dyeing. It's actually because the yarn used on the original fabric is a mercerized long staple cotton.

Industrial crackle update

Wow, another year gone. My, doesn't time fly? I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I haven't had much time off as our 'Xmas' isn't for another two and a half weeks or so. In many ways I miss living in the west and having the old 'traditional' Xmas with overcooked turkey, familial fisticuffs, stupid jumpers and badly knitted socks from Aunt Maud. Can't say I miss the sprouts though....

My only regret was not being able to lay my hands on Heston Blumenthal's legendary candied orange Christmas pudding but fuck it, I'm sure some enterprising sort will have saved a piece and will eventually whack it onto Ebay with the obligatory 100% markup and will no doubt also mark it as 'used'.

Well, we have had a monstrously harsh winter here. Global warming? What fucking global warming? Bollocks. I don't even think the Australian floods were a natural disaster and more of a mass bursting into tears after losing the Ashes. Three weeks the Aussies were praying for rain and when it finally does come...But seriously, I sympathise for those that have died. Knowing that their last thought was that Australia was shit at cricket couldn't have been nice.

Speaking of weather, the snow has been the bane of my life these past few months. The reason for my lack of activity in these parts is that my family business has been drafted in to help build a high speed rail link. Actually, parts for equipment for one, as that must sound horribly self-important and not strictly accurate. With 10 feet snow drifts and Siberian frigidity, work has been tough but since here in China we are made of sterner stuff than some of you pansies, we press on. The other issue that this coldness has had is that it has been playing merry fucking hell with my paint attempts. I've had three professional paint sprayers fuck off in frustration (and the fact I threatened to nail their hands to the wall might have had something to do with it, but I like to think it was the job rather than me that caused them to bug out). This leaves muggins here to waste valuable paint on trying to manually paint these sonics, a job that really should be done by robot. It is a 20 stage process that can fuck up due to the most arbitrary of reasons. I need three straight days to go through the process and because of my other commitments, it's not something I could easily spare. The low temperatures and humidity also do not help. In many ways, transmuting lead to gold is probably easier. But this weekend, I nailed it with the help of an industrial humidifier and a heater. Here then, are the results:

A couple of months ago I posted first pics of the much hyped Wow Stuff! prototype die-cast sonic that was announced early this year: http://celestialtoystore.blogspot.com/2010/08/wow-what-piece-of-shit.html

Let's face it, it looked like shit. Designworks of Windsor had obviously recycled the CO design and the end result was somewhat plasticky:

The good news is that in the interim the design has been jiggled around with and the final production versions began hitting UK shops this week. They have got rid of that stupid looking coupler in the middle of the cage section and given the emitter bulb a green tint. All good.

The bad news is that the fucking thing still looks plastic. There is a perfectly reasonable explanation for this, I'm told. That's because only the lower half is metal and the upper part is plastic. Size wise, it's about 10mm shorter than the toy and about 10mm shorter than the actual prop. Here's the moneyshot:

And here's the Wow Stuff pen which should send Elvisgump running to change his pants. It's actually a hell of a lot better than the dildo pink monstrosity seen in the first official picture that was posted on the Argos UK site:

The pen is actually not bad. Very shiny and quite cute in a novelty sort of way and should provide Elvisgump's right arm enough whack-off action to last him until Xmas.

Twat Alert

Those of you that have been following the boards the past few weeks would have noticed the antics of the hirsute tool pictured above who is known as Mike 'Elvisgump' Jackson (as an aside, what the fuck is an 'Elvisgump'?). This cheap bastard has been boring the RPF with his desire to own an accurate metal sonic screwdriver with a pen and with sound. Unable to afford one, this prat has decided to build one but due to lack of money and skill, has ended up embarrassing himself with his increasingly comical and desperate attempts to obtain parts for next to nothing. His latest endeavour has been to obtain a sound chip.

I'm not going to blow smoke up your ass and say that a soundchip is difficult to get hold of or make. It really isn't. However, getting one made small enough to fit inside an accurate sized sonic screwdriver is. In fact, it is a two fold problem involving miniaturizing both soundboard and speaker. CO made one that was pretty small but even the CO soundboard was a little too big for a 1:1 sonic and ran on larger batteries. I ended up developing a custom soundboard from scratch that was 40% smaller than the CO version. This was neither cheap nor easy and meant my sonic was delayed for a year but I felt it was worth it.

So what has this got to do with this prick Elvisgump? Having pleaded with everyone and anyone to magic up a soundchip for him to buy and drawing an unsurprising blank, he decides to bite the bullet and try and sweet talk me into selling him one. So cue the following exchange on my Youtube account (Elvisgump is called 'Mentalpix'):

Ok, so having politely said 'no' with a perfectly valid reason, this cocksucker then proceeds to call me 'horrid' and 'a dick'. Note that in my original knock back to him I neither 'frothed at the mouth' (whatever that means in an online context) nor was I rude. However, what pissed me off was that he admitted he 'bit his lip' to ask me to sell him a sound chip thus implying his faux-respectfulness was just that and he only did it to try and butter me up. The sense of entitlement shown is both shocking and utterly out of touch with real world values. It flys in the face of acceptable conduct. I get the feeling that he feels it is somehow his right for me to sell him my soundchip and when I told him I would not do that, he spat his dummy and started calling me names! That I really don't mind as I've been called worse, but when a person has the brazen cheek to ask something that is obviously out of order and then is surprised and offended when knocked back, that just makes me incredulous. Yes, my soundchip is proprietory and not for sale but I've actually given away a few to my customers and friends because I like them and because they asked nicely. I don't give a shit about it being reverse engineered as there is no one out there who can do it. I just don't give away for next to nothing, my property to two faced beardy cunts who bad mouth me behind my back.

On a more general level, Mike 'Elvisgump' Jackson is a snivelly two-faced weaselly little fuck who brown noses in the most cringeworthy and undignified manner if he wants something from someone. Just read some his sycophantic attempts at flattering Eddie and Dan Stokes. They are painful reading as he's just so fake.

In this RPF thread some of my friends, customers and even former enemies call him out yet he still somehow tries to argue the moral high ground from a totally untenable position! Him and his buddy, that walking Penis Daniel 'Risu' Pawlik, even suggest I have a sockpuppet on the RPF! Now why would I need to do that when I can read the board without an account and blog and Tweet replies with impunity? That is the famous last desperate fingerpointing gasp of those with nothing to argue with. There are some real gems in that thread but my favorites are from a former detractor of mine, NakedMoleRat, who wrote:

This has been an odd week. Last Friday the entire country has closed down for a week for the 'National Day' holiday to celebrate ostensibly, the moment when China effectively became a Commie police state. All well and good, but coming so soon after the Mid Autumn Festival it effectively means that China has suffered a second consecutive week of, I'll put it frankly, bone idleness. I can only apologise to my loyal customers since I have back orders to fulfill and although I have performed my end of the bargain with considerable aplomb, I am at the mercy of the sodding post office, whose vagaries are well documented and whose work ethic is so arbitrary that nothing short of a supercomputer running chaos theory algorithms can predict it.

So, in this interregnum between Summer and Autumn, I took time out to move home (precisely 20 doors down the road in fact), helped the old man relocate part of the existing factory to nearby Anhui Province and get on with some much delayed design work. Having done all of that, I did what any self respecting man would do when surrounded by temporary systemic national indolence, I joined them and went out to get pissed.

This evening I went for a beer with my mate, the paint chemist, we'll call him 'Bob'. Inevitably the conversation turned to the subject of the industrial crackle that I had him develop for me a couple of months back. I have been getting A LOT of mails regarding this stuff and I have had to say NO to all of you who asked. I have tried to ease the pain somewhat by revealing the Perfetto crackle technique and process but the industrial coat has gnawed at me for the past few months and my reluctance to offer it is mainly economics. I won't bore you with the details of it but needless to say, this stuff is NOT cheap and has to be implemented on an industrial scale (based on dead weight of the material to be painted) in order to be economical. You see, this stuff has its roots within the automotive industry and has to be, ideally, applied by robots and setting up the process is expensive and time consuming unless you have the clout of a major car manufacturer. Which I don't.

However, never one to take no for an answer, I proceeded to blag, bullshit and bully Bob, with the aid of copious amounts of Hennessy XO and the memory of an incident involving a Thai ladyboy, a large daikon radish and some live prawns, into doing a small run in his test lab. Rotting in hell not withstanding, I am now quite please to offer a small limited run of sonics in this wonderful industrial crackle for the price of £250 each.

Absolute numbers are a bit up in the air but depending on how many I can be bothered to strip down, I will say no more than 20 of each model MAXIMUM. Probably less, as Bob simply did not make enough of the stuff to paint more than that.

The initial test piece has been chucked around quite a bit and has not suffered in the slightest. It's more durable than the powdercoat and is virtually indistinguishable from the Perfetto coating. Considering a spare body will cost you upwards of £50 and a Perfetto repaint £30, having a totally ready painted one for £50 premium on top of the standard price is a nice little deal for a quite groovy upgrade.

Some of you have emailed me asking if I can repaint your sonics in this. The answer is categorically NO. This is mainly because it is not *just* the body that need repainting but the slider plate/button too. It is a lot of work to remove the slider plate/button for repainting and can and will destroy the electronics requiring a total rewiring. I am keeping this run separate and exclusive with a price tag to reflect this. If you want one and have purchased a standard one prior, I suggest you do what everyone else would do and Ebay it ASAP and use the proceeds to purchase one of these :-) Who knows, maybe you might sell it to someone who is gagging for one of mine but can't bring themselves to buy one from me.
